Very nice that eightyeightthirty.one is really cool. I wish that the really heavy expensive 3D visualization of the data was opt in because I basically can't run it without lagging out the whole browser lol. But it's pretty cool. I wonder if you could get a local LLM to try to guess how to categorize the pages and get some good results. That kind of data science stuff is something I've never done before tho

@goeshard I'm in the no-AI webring so LLM is a forbidden tool, but I think useful curation truly requires human eyesballs. I attempted an automated directory inspired by Melon's Surf Club, which pulls relevant CSS from sites, but there are so many user quirks (you would not believe how many people title their site index "home") I could not find a meaningful way to automate it, at least not with the data I have.

After realizing how likely webrings and the sites on them are to go offline, I realize there is somewhat a meritted reason people stopped using them. My favorite "rings" these days dispose of the ring idea entirely and it's just a static page with a bunch of links on it. The member pages just link back to the ring page. It's simple, relies less on users to keep the ring, more useful to someone in the future.

Nope, all I know is the site is not deleted, just set to black (view source). There may be a copy archived on the Wayback machine if you want to look for contact info.

To be clear, trans rights are human rights, and radfems are assholes. Philosophically, the archive is a historical record, not an endorsement of site content. That doesn't mean I'm obligated to host every site button, but I've only programmatically excluded one citizen (Pais). I do keep a general eye out for NeoCities TOS violations, but I haven't noticed any so far.
