I found the iplogs API, it checks if IP belongs to Tor, VPNs and has a score to judge if it's a proxy, so using the API I made a script when page loads it checks the user IP and if it's "clean" the chat loads, else you get an error msg, but if the guy decided to block scripts the chat would load regardless so I decided to put chat in the script itself (script blocked, chat doesn't load at all)

I'm sad that I had to take this anti-privacy measure, but apart from Tor/VPN not being popular/known at all in my country so would hardly impact people visiting my site (at this point, mostly locals - as, from my own city), this wasn't the only issue... what if the guy got suspicious? If he was to inspect the code and check the scripts running he could find the chat, so I decided to create a new chatbox

so instead of getting an error message, a person using Tor/VPN/known-proxy/suspicious-IP ends up in this new separate chat that won't bother my main users... but this new empty chat, besides also suspicious, was very unwelcoming in case a real user decided to leave a message, so I copied all messages over, the only hint the nazi could have that he is not in the same chat as the others is the missing time stamps

and if a real user is to leave a real message, I can copy it over to the real chat... oh, also, because I use an ajax menu the scripts are cleaned up and reloaded with navigation, and IP-checking every time to load the chat sucks so I'm using sessionStorage to cache it if one day he doesn't use Tor his hateful messages are ending up in the real chat, but then I'm having his real IP

not just nazi apologia, but racism itself is a crime in my country (he was also making rape threats), so if does post with his real IP I won't even delete the message, I'm just making his IP and his statements public, I know people that would take it to the federal police and they do go after it

but I'm also tracking the guy, I know for sure he is from my city, he didn't find my zine site on search engines, he either picked my zine somewhere or saw the paste-ups I put around with the site address, and after some asking around, it seems like only one neighborhood has nazi symbols sprayed around, might not be the same guy, but this one doesn't go very far from home, next step: paint over his shit

Why not just filter for known hateful speech patterns and let him scream into the void? If you live in a country where you can get punished for users publishing on your site, I would think you have more important political considerations than perpetuating censorship. Do you not see how banning the aggression just has people routing around it? Give him a nice quiet place to yell, make him think he's affecting change.

Then, farm him for aura by showing off how you trapped a lonely demon in your closet.

@aznet I can't get punished, but the person posting can (but on Tor IP, it's a waste of time to denounce). The second chat (accessed only by Tor/VPN) is exactly what you said, it's pretending to be the real chat but the real chat won't see his messages, he's talking to himself. About filters, I put some in place just to annoy him, but free tier Cbox only let me use 10 rules, even by using strings it's very limited

Catbox has constant bandwidth problems, those sites full of images hosted there, usually half of them doesn't load for me and I have to reload them individually or keep reloading the page until they all decide to load, also Catbox is known for purging images...

like, you have a fully reliable 1GB storage to use right where you are hosting your .html files, but instead use a completely unrelated and not as reliable service?

yeah i don't get hosting images either. video and audio? sure. but yeah catbox is a piece of crap. i feel like a broken record but i use file.garden for hosting video and audio and it works just fine.

I use catbox when I just want to send someone an image quickly, and I actually use their litterbox because the image has no use after filegarden inconvenience is having to create an acc :P (but I'm hosting a few videos there now after you suggested it @brachy... whenever I decide to be a nc supporter again I'm uploading them here though)

yeah im using file.garden because i can't trust myself to hold my supporter status for longer than 3 months and i really don't want link rot on my files

personally i think a lot of people need to get in the habit of compressing their images lol i use file garden just for stuff neocities wont support on the free tier

@brachy after support ends you don't lose the files (I pay for support whenever I want to make new subdomains, you don't lose access to them either)

that or sometimes even imgur, i don't know why there's a need to use a dedicated image-hosting site to then reuse it for a website/subdomain.

I run a more complicated website with more custom code at more personal expense to me than donations would ever make up and even still, 5 usd per month is affordable, and I am poor.
