I dye my hair at home all the time. Make sure that magenta is really really out otherwise you will get purple. Both colors you've picked are capable of staining your whole bathroom so be careful with how you rinse it out lest your tub will be that color. Section your hair well and take your time!! Do not rush it!! But be careful with letting ammonia-based dyes stay in your hair too long
Oh and do a test strip especially because it's your first time doing it yourself!!
What garfriend said - consider doing a few washes to really wash the magenta out as much as you can. Consider a colour remover too but always read the box as it can be harsh especially if your hair is processed already. (I have had green/blue hair for 3 yrs)
If in doubt always contact a salon for advice - some might be able to strip the colour for you
