if you're actually curious how, it's because Spotify (and a lot of other really popular programs like Discord) use an Electron client to operate, which is a wrapper for a series of Chromium clients! Electron is garbage

the reason it happened when your chromebook was running slow is because Spotify requires two or three Chromium clients just to run, so it's really inefficient!
