i think another big part of the struggle is just how complicated things have gotten - every domain is blanketed by an overwhelming array of rules, regulations, permits, bureaucracy in general, and it's easily paralyzing if you don't have the capacity to handle it, like enough money to hire departments full of lawyers and other specialists

i recall seeing a lot of techy people dunking on js... especially the "Internet Privacy Guys" always had some vague complaints about privacy or security issues or something... there were also memes people made about wacky javascript equality operator ('==' and '===') behavior. overall i think it gets a bad rep among tech people because it's associated with web dev, the lowest status development work.
Thank you! The original layouts were closer recreations of old AOL themes but I've started being a little more creative. But AOL was my first taste of the internet so I love referencing it.
