your art is GREAT!!, you should try to apply for it, even if you get turned down. you won't know unless you try.

“Your art is great!” thats subjective, and also what’s the point in applying for an art college is they specifically mention they don’t want anime art? It’s super confusing to me because cartoons are the same thing in my opinion just from different countries yet art teachers don’t care if you do cartoons. They act like anime is a vicious disease to any artists and they will fail if they draw it even once

speaking as someone taking art classes in college it entirely depends. some schools/teachers value the fundamentals and are pretty assholeish when it comes to other mediums and styles but if you desperately think you need to study those (like i am for my own development) then i'd say give it a try. school is all about learning at the end of the day

bug eyed anime girls are still valuable and even if you do end up studying don't let those teachers hinder your ability to draw what you want. a lot of people get burnt out from the load of art school so if you ever go PLEASE learn to balance your artistic output vs what you actually want to draw. it will be intense

I think you could be successful without going to an art school, however it is up to you. A school can be good for making connections in the industry.
I'm mostly self taught, bought a few small online courses here and there and a lot of art books. Sure I studied graphic design but that was to learn some different skills, so basically my illustration skills are self taught. If you like drawing anime, keep drawing it! However studying the fundamentals doesn't hurt, you don't have to go to university to do that if you'd rather go to uni for something else.

It depends. I would not go if dey refused my type of style entirely. Everyone should try new styles. Apply different techniques to what you want to do. But if you want to do anime art, and say you do a class about perspective, if you get the perspective down, would they deny it for being anime anyway? Or are they trying to soley teach realism? Or would they help you with your cartoon art style? ...

You are trying to go for a specific art style. If they helped you persue that, maybe doing art for actual companies utilizing your style, i would go. Plenty of anime artists, cartoonists, have went to art college. Who do you look up to art wise? Did they go? Did they get results? Do you think the college itself would provide you with what youre looking for art wise?

As someone whos in college for art rn, it depends if you feel like it’s the right path for you. You mentioned art schools not being accepting of anime art styles, but you also don't have to go to school for a “traditional art degree”. If you look at diferent universities, you could find some that offer programs specifically for character design or smth similar.

If you go for an art degree, you will need to learn the fundamentals and anatomy, which most likely will require you to draw in diferent styles like realism. But most schools will encourage you to draw in your own style after you finish learning the basics. + I think furthering your education is a great choice, no matter what you study.

I've heard that colleges specifically for art are not objectively the best for an art career since they have highly, highly competitive student environments. To give a different view, I'm currently going to a technical college as an art major, which I'd say has less stuff specifically for art since they also divert to engineering, computer science, etc...

but they still teach the fundamentals and different mediums of art (both traditional and digital) with an ample amount classes and resources. I won't completely downplay art school since I've seen lots of amazing work created by their student bodies, but I believe whatever college with a decent art program that fits any criteria you have will be just fine.

Speaking really honestly as someone who's about to graduate graphic design school and plans on getting a 2year degree for a different field after: it hinges very heavily on whether art is something you want to pursue as a career or hobby. I initially got into design for my love of illustration and page design: I don't regret going, but now think it would be better for me personally to do it as a side gig. 1/-

Are you interested in doing artwork as a job – either working for an agency or specializing in illustration or animation? By all means, go for it. But it's easy to get burnout doing it full-time: if it isn't something youre particularly passionate about doing as a career, you may want to choose something else you wouldnt mind doing so you have the funds and security to do art for fun outside of work. 2/-

I hope this makes sense – I'm not trying to discourage you from going to art school at all, if you really want it, you should go for it! But ultimately it has less to do with your style being "good" (everything is subjective but your art DOES rock to me and others, clearly!)and more to do with if you would be okay learning and drawing in different styles, mostly what other people want you to draw.

Obviously graphic design and general BFAs are different, and I'm sure someone going to Ringling or another art school would have more specific insights. I'm happy to talk more about this, though, if you're interested.
