im very heartbroken because she was telling me yesterday how happy she was she was gonna take her vacation leave that is assigned to everyone in the job, she was gonna take 2 weeks from this friday. worst is no one from her office or her boss told her, it had to be the guy from accounting to tell her to leave. my poor mom, im so sad for her i wish i could do something to help her

shes told me before she loves being useful, and she loved working in that office. everyone thinks its unfair. they kept saying that the reason to fire her was because they were being pressured by the associates to let go someone... and because of the "high pay she was getting" but she was the one making less money from the team, she was getting minimum wage for doing office job and doing the cleaning.

its so unfair, shes honest with her work, shes good at her job, shes a fast learner, but i guess thats the exact reason why the other people in the team want her gone. its because they cant do tax fraud and shit like anymore with her because shes always getting the right numbers. not like the other ladies who would suck the money out of the student benefit with their kids.

the thing that makes me sad is that she knows and we know that people wont employ her because of her age even tho shes capable of many things with computers, accounting, filing reports, cleaning, making sure to reach the costumers herself if they needed help with something, she would sit with them and help them navigate the problem. its so unfair, shes so smart, i know life its not fair but this is cruel :(

That's so awful of the workplace!! Don't feel bad about venting, totally understandable and even important, since sharing these things exposes our current violations in labor rights and how prevalent age stigmas really are. I wish her only the best and that she finds a workplace that really cherishes her stellar work ethic and herself 🩷

you'd think she'd be able to take legal action if she wasn't disclosed a month prior like she should but idk i'm not a lawyer

yeah i was thinking about the lawsuit thing but we barely have any money she wouldnt want to do that, but we do have good proof of this being a wrongful termination. Many of the associates of the work she works at had a "last minute" get together and they demanded someone be fired because of theres lack of funding and they want all the money to be used properly, and i find it stupid they fired my mom of all people.

regardless of all the qualities i've mentioned she has, she was the one doing overwork more and getting paid less, the 2 other secretaries get double what she makes and just have one job each. They just hate that my mom wont go along with their fraud and illegal schemes. that has to be it, they had no other real reason otherwise. she does everything on time shes even able to do the job of the other 2 ladies!

shes covered for both of them even tho she doesnt have the proper training for the job of those two, but she did it well and people praised her for being so efficient and those two even when they can be really mean spirited to my mom, she would still do the job when they were absent or had a free day or a emergency. its so unfair

It was expected of her to do their job when they weren't there and she adapted. They tried making her sign some papers today and she said she would but tomorrow, she got home and got all her evidence and she's coming tomorrow there to show it all off.

I'm so sorry this happened to your mom. There is a special kind of pain when someone does their best and ends up treated like a line in a spreadsheet. She sounds like an amazing mom, trying to protect you from that worry. I think knowing how much you care is more help than you might realize! I am sending the most positive energy to your family so that she can find a company soon that actually deserves her!

she basically did office work, she was able to register people and check their payments + knowing all work the other 2 office ladies had to do (in case they werent at work my mom had to know how to replace them as it was expected even tho my mom had no training in their specific fields but she did a damn good job) every costumer talks so fondly of my mom. im really hoping she gets another opportunity at a better job!

i tried online learning for my last year of highschool and it was hell, its like i wasnt able to actually listen to my teacher over video call, its like everything went in one ear and it came out the other one, i had good grade in my last year too, my grades didnt go down at all but i was barely holding it. i dont know if being in a computer inmedietly distracts me or what but its like so hard for me to learn

that way. Its all so confusing cos the internet holds so much informations but its like my brains sees something in the screen that im not all excited about but i still want to do and its just, off. Is this fixable? will i be dumb forever? i want to learn so much but its like my brain wont let me no more :(

if i find anew thing i like, all is fine, but i know life is not all about doing things we like, i want to learn but i just cant concentrate when the subject isnt something im 100 percent engaged or passionate about. idk whats wrong with me but i do really want to learn and do stuff, creative projects or writing. idk if this is a relatable struggle i just kinda wanted to vent here cos i dont have friends to talk to.

reall. Of course u wont be dumb forever bro, u arent dumb now. U want to learn stuff and that means your not dumb. Honestly I think is just setting a certian time for ur self to do stuff like creative projects. like for example when im studying I do the pomodoro technique which is basically like learning for one hour and then resting for 30 minutes, that way you can concentrate for a short amount of time and then --

also like external deadlines, tell someone that in one week time I'm gonna show u this creative project i'm working on. this deadline you set for yourself will make you work, and show something to this person.but idk bro this my advice.

honestly, it's just trial & error (at least for creative stuff). after doing something a lot, you eventually learn what works for you and what doesn't. Aside from that, use videos. Being able to hear & see someone explain something is always so helpful and it really makes things 'stick', you know? If you're using videos though, write down the things in the video as well. Honestly, whenever you're trying to learn ...

... something new, just try to write it down (but don't write it down verbatim, try to abbreviate or summarise things where you can, since this means you're actually processing the info). Also, when writing stuff down, try to write with pencil/pens if you can, because there have been studies that show that writing stuff with a keyboard is less effective for learning (but both are still effective).

I think a mixture of reading, real-world experience, and immersing yourself in it? I like to read the Wikipedia articles on things I enjoy (it provides a mostly objective account with sources!), attend events/participate in things related to it (in my case, working in theatre) and making it part of your daily life. I'm just some guy chattering though, so take my word with a grain of salt!

learning from videos never worked from me (for non-artistic stuff), because I need to go at my pace and be able to re-read the same thing 5 times if I have to. Hands-on skills, I prefer videos because you need visuals on how to do the things though. I've started studying art history earlier this year because why not, and I found out it is daunting because the internet has that much information available

So I didn't know where to start. I managed to find a website that offers 'syllabi', curated guides already set like a course. It helped with the pressure of having to find the study material, which was one of the big struggles for me. But that's for more academic knowledge, I feel like how you learn also depends on what you learn

the fact that you're eager to learn in the first place is something you should be proud of!! ..this is probably not the best advice but i force myself into it before i start to like it. like, i always find popular songs with good verses and the rest is eh, but after listening too many times i start to warm up to it. associating things you don't like with things you like makes you begrudgingly like them.
