man that late-season blizzard in 2018 was hell. I lived in the wedge at the time. I'm still mad about how hard it was to find a parking spot for a couple days

@tchun omg yes Basquiat too especially with those white dudes who make Basquiat-like work saying that they're soooo deep. I'm all for everyone can make whatever art, but it's defo diluting the impact of his work and experiences. Ts pmo so much

You could argue the root problem is Capitalism, but we're really talking about commodity fetishism and people exploiting dead artist's work. Let's take "Nirvana" as a brand, which has become somewhat antithetical to diy culture. You could blame the family for "selling out", maybe its Frances Bean Cobain. The others: the basquiat sisters, keith haring foundation (which was actually set up by keith i believe).

It's a lot easier to make money off someone's work when they have no say in it (ie dead, rendered insane, etc). I think this is the real crux of the problem. By the way I bought a Basquiat poster at The Broad anyway.

....so therefore your comment is somewhat moot. it's okay to like & appreciate these artists after they die, sure, but the root of the problem is exactly what gar said.
