also mild-ish spoilers for weapons (which i watched today), and general thoughts on horror tropes these days. let me know your Thoughts(TM)

i haven't watched weapons nor am i the biggest horror fan (#wuss) but i can see where u're coming from... idk, generally speaking i feel like so many films that come out nowadays want to hold the viewers hand (showing not telling and wtv) horror especially. and imo gore is such a cheap way to get a scare, unless it's done "right"? i'd assume it's just the shock factor of it all

+ i'd love to hear ur thoughts on the backrooms movie, i enjoyed it quite a lot but the ending in particular left me feeling stumped, wanting more, and mildly pissed off LOL

backrooms annoyed me so much, because the ending was so clearly sequel-bait, and it had such a strong first half like why couldn't they keep that energy for the whole film ughh

and i'm so done with the whole 'show not tell' because at this point they aren't showing or telling anymore. i don't mind gore, but especially with weapons it just felt so repetitive and predictable. like, well done, you have a great sfx team, now what? honestly, even midsommar had too much gore for me, because at that point you can tell when a director is using it for shock value instead of putting effort into

integrating it with the main story. not a horror film, but a movie in which i actually liked the gore was Bugonia, because they managed to integrate it into the narrative well. to be honest, i feel like the weapons prequel has more potential than weapons itself, so hopefully that's marginally better

update log: ranting about ketchup and turkish mayo (please read, i want to know your thoughts on my ketchup theory), as well as some ruminations about my cousin's bad diet, as well as my own rapidly deteriorating quality of food consumption

also, unrelated, but everyone and their mother is going to watch the odyssey, which is good for them, but it's been two years since i went to the cinema, and over six years since i went to the cinema willingly, so i'm hella jealous and i'm seriously itching to get back home to watch it

Okay I deff love ketchup and express the "yearning" for ketchup specifically. Tho over the years I kinda got used to using tomato sauce like from a jar, as well as making my own one when I can, so the standard condiment ketchup can feel weird to me if i haven't had it for a long time. It's actually sugary when you get used to eating "tomato sauce" (tho I call both ketchup for whatever reason)

i get u on the mayo part where it feels like a cold s o m e t h i n g i think that's usually when it's gotten a bit diluted among the other sandwich parts? When u make some at home it definitely tastes and smells like eggs either way. Sorry for the mini rant I'm very passionate about food (hence my prediabetes XD)

i specifically go for ketchup with higher % of tomato puree (the one i have has 82%) which i guess might be a diff dealio too compared to Usual Ketchup... i usually dont get straightup tomato sauce due to Ketchup's Way Longer Shelf Life and the fact i wouldnt even have tomato sauce all too often. but i see ur possible point re ketchup theory... cant comment on turkish mayo cos never have had any

I've always wondered if ketchup in other parts of the world is any better, because my entire adult life I have been Executive Director of the Lobby Against American Ketchup [read: corn syrup slop]. Now I'm far more curious about "Turkish Mayo"....

@viasinistra i've actually never tried consuming tomato sauce instead... i'm beginning to think i just don't like tomatoes actually, and the only way i can consume them is through the sugary solvent of ketchup. I've never tried homemade mayo, but i think my main... worry, i suppose, is that it'll be too egg-y, if that's a thing. there's something about mayo that tastes the way banks smell...

Trying out a new format because it feels like every time I open my laptop, I get whisked into another universe and writing in a notebook is the only way to avoid get bothered about it.
