Hello people life has been royally kicking my ass and today sucked so I'm going to return to my roots and create a shit ton of paintings and play an unhealthy amount of Stardew Valley until I feel more stable.

omg YES to the thing about authors and self inserts. like what are you supposed to do, tell stories without your perspective in them? that sounds BOOOORING! and green hair is the best!!

@ boredomarchive I think it's impossible for a person to not insert their perspective into their creations, especially when it comes to writing. I mean, when you write, you're thinking "What would this character do in this situation?", right? Every author does that, it's a cornerstone of writing compelling and realistic characters. I think that's akin enough to inserting yourself into the work.

"write what you know" is the most prevalent advice for writers. it's expected! I agree with you that even if they don't realize it, they are putting themselves in their work. you pull from your experiences to write the most heart-wrenching stuff, it doesn't just come out of air.

@ maxcrunch I mean, all of my comics are based off my personal experience and all of the characters featured within them are based on my inner posse haha. I took “write what you know” perhaps a bit too much to heart…
