I left Duolingo during the AI thing, but I'm actually kinda glad that someone's talking about it even still, since I know so many people who didn't want to / couldn't quit. Duolingo has been becoming worse and worse over time, unfortunately, removing a lot of good features

And I heavily agree on what you say about its usage as a tool. It sucks majorly for learning a brand new language, but if you use it as an additional practice tool, it can be very very great! I'll admit, I do wish there were some kind of free, open-source, collaboratively managed language learning materials... Like sure, you can Google stuff about every single language, but you very much have to "build" the course

all by yourself, and that's as challenging as learning the language in the first place. Duolingo as meh as it is, offers you an OK path and you follow it! (Unless you've used some of their shitty AI generated courses for rarer language duos: only standard ENGLISH to COMMON LANGUAGE LIKE GERMAN tend to be of decent quality 😢)

Yeah the AI thing is terrible, language is for connecting with people, why remove that aspect and throw everything to AI? It's awful and it shows how greedy they are, it's a shame
That's a good idea, I replaced all my phone icons with cute animal crossing themed ones lol and they no longer have the red notification numbers :) it's cute and less stressful <3
Aw thats such a cool idea! And it makes your phone adorable XD my solution for now is to make everything grayscale and boring lol
The best I've managed to do is to keep my phone physically away from me at certain times of day, like several meters away rather than in reach, and try to replace phone time with other activities. It's really hard though
@pixelglade yeah it's what im trying too, and i agree, i hate how hard it is but i really want my time back xD i know how much time i have in the day when I'm not wasting it scrolling
@kuroi I'm the same, I hate "waking up" from scrolling aimlessly and just feeling like I'm not actually doing anything. Hope you find something that works :)
I have an app that frequently interrupts me when I'm on social media and locks it completely after a certain amount of daily screentime. it's worked really well for me, my phone is becoming less of a distraction and more of a tool. so that may be worth a try if you haven't tried it already!
I wish there was something like that but only for yt shorts xD thats the bane of my existence, and it's tough to use an app lock because sometimes i do watch actually interesting and useful stuff on youtube outside of shorts. So I'm trying to limit my phone usage as a whole and focus on other stuff thats not digital :')
