they are pretty easy to train, as theyre deeply food motivated and intelligent. they can also count, do basic maths, recognise faces (and prefer beautiful people), sing, recognise themselves in mirrors, have a language, etc

also they display empathy for each other! https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-startling-intelligence-of-the-common-chicken1/ https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0291416 https://www.scienceworld.ca/stories/chickens-can-do-math/

Yeah I could animate it and use a GIF, or figure out how to repurpose https://codepen.io/amit_sheen/pen/WNOroWM OR https://www.cssplay.co.uk/menu/css3-3d-billboard.html but it'll be easier if I just make my page simpler. So nevermind

aw damn that sounds like it would've been so cool!! wish it was easier to get stuff like this to work without external libraries

The worst feeling :( I'm in a similar boat. I think the 3d billboard animations do look awesome!

i would use canvases for this but at the same time that would require preloading the next page and storing it out of view and like writing transformation functions and ok yeah i can see why that would be complicated. shit

had similar experiences. some things just lag like crazy on css, like big blurs or drop-shadows.
brachypelmide

@psychicnewborn can confirm. if you want to lag your site the best way to do it is to stack a lot of blurs. my pre-molt site used to have like 3 different blurs stacked on top of each other on rare occasions

Unfortunately, not only has @chesca deleted her site, but @shittymeat999 confirmed she deleted her email account too. I've now moved chesca's button to the new Inactive/Offline section on my button wall. I hope she's doing better now wherever she is, her blog posts were really poignant and thoughtful

I thought i would avoid them when I got here but I changed my mind I like tagging people and it’s fun to provide a chat box ambience ina way sometimes. I had a horrible experience with harassment a month or two ago with cbox that I had issues handling with a free account however.

a chatbox basically feels like a lower-effort version of a guestbook...i've considered removing mine just because having a guestbook makes it redundant. but for anyone wanting to drop a quick hello without a longer message it's nice to have

I only put one on my site so people can talk to me directly. That way nobody can ban me.

i think chatboxes/comments/guestbooks are nice for letting people who dont have a neocities account comment on your site! forms are cool for finding other people in the personal web who might not be hosted on neocities, or who may not update often enough to be easily discovered ^^ now i've never really hung out in someones chat box and chatted with other people there, but i do think forums are neat

i rarely post, but i browse the melonland forum pretty often. there's some interesting discussions as well as useful resources/guides that i wouldn't have found anywhere else

I mean having a guestbook lets other people outside of neocities have a first greeting like the activity feed similar to neocities, which there are since there's other places like nekoweb, having a guestbook is pretty nice though I haven't had a chatbox before, although forums seem pretty nice but i gotta give some a try soon

chatboxes are super cool, although they can come with downsides (also known as Trying to use CBOX) - nobody really visits them due to the fact that it's kinda random and nerve-wracking but like a guestbook it's cool to have

I see, yeah I heard people hang out frequently on onio.club but I'm a little iffy with how quickly a public chatbox can go off the rails. I think it's about time I check out the MelonLand forums though. Thanks everyone!

eh, it's a little bit of both. it's a fun way to socialize, but I grew bored. i think its strengths is in creating a community that is very passionate about a specific thing, and i just don't get passionate about stuff like that, so not much to talk about

She made a post about how her irl friends found her site. I don't think she was happy about it. I hope she's OK.

She's probably ok. At least I hope. She mentioned that she was thinking about deleting her site and that's probably what happened. I will miss her :(

Oh I've been on her website before, didn't interact with her but it looks like the website is down so it's been deleted, I've had an irl acquaintance find my website and ask me about one of the things I made but didn't care about the scalie-ness of me anyways, but I hope she's okay

That's what makes Neocities such a goated place. The people here are a lot more creative and they also know when to take breaks from the internet

this is so real, im following so many people because i genuinely like their sites and want to see when they update, but my feed is not at all overhwelming. granted some people have not updated their site in years, but if they do come back I'll still be able to see it!

I like it because it’s a much more realistic depiction of a creative process. Social media encourages it to be fast and perfect but this format lays out a nice realistic timeline

Yeah this also makes art get burried as well, there's a reason why you see people repost their own stuff, in addition you can still see their changes later if you visit again which I like

It's been the biggest breathe of fresh air to consume with intent, verses the mindless slog of being fed. I'm so grateful for neocities!
Itll be worth it in the end and we'll all love what you're doing, im sure!
the journey is part of the destination! be easy on yourself and take care
im sure it will be worth it!! take good care of yourself and try to have fun with it! :)
doing mistakes is good 👍 it’s part of the process you’ll get there
