i feel you, as someone who dislikes being pressured. there are a lot of websites & people i like, that i will start to like far, far less, if they keep bugging me, 'button?' 'add my button?' 'button 4 button?' and i actually unfollowed someone otherwise cool for this not too long ago. fucking stop it, you're being annoying

...and i forgot to add your button back when i first followed you. see? it's not even that i don't want to. i just have to do things at my own pace

videos about indie web is great!! thats how I partially found out!! if ppl are concerned about traffic of neocities, I think it would be cool for ppl to talk about other website hosts too! like nekoweb! I want MORE artists on here to show their work!! I love feeling like I walked into their studio to see their work!! plus I can comment on their stuff without feeling the weight of social media social anxiety I have

I think while the fears shouldn't be dismissed, the reason the "mainstream" web changed from the 90s, is because tools became available to make it possible to make sites without technical knowledge. This is not a bad thing, but it means that the web became less specifically "nerdy" as a result. The different with Neocities is that it requires a level of technical proficiency to make a page.

(continued due to char limit) So while it is true that cultures on sites will always change with time and trends, Neocities, by its very infrastructure, acts as a filter of people for certain interests.

i hate gatekeeping!! i mean personal sites are very genuine, as opposed to social media platforms where ppl try to fit in to their ideas of each platform. with more ppl on nc idk how the "culture" would change at all. i think the only things that could are core nc changes, like microblogs added to global feed, not a bigger userbase of more cool genuine ppl.

yeah I also saw complaints of ppl treating neocities feeds like social media posts instead of about website-building or something. imo I dont think its a big deal? however I would be sad if ppl stopped talking about their sites as much on here. but how could that happen?? its LITERALLY a site hosting place here...

omg exactly. neocities is, just like geocities, a place for rando dweebs to bare their hearts to the net. it's not an issue if millions of people do it just as much as its not an issue if only like 10 people do it. i always love seeing new people making their first site!!!!!!!

that's such an asinine reason for even a hypothetical ban...what rule would you be violating?

I think you can use archive.org, probably the best option. If archive.org doesn't work you could upload to YouTube and unlist them, and embed through YouTube (you'll be stuck with the youtube video player). Some cloud services like Google Drive I think allow you to embed files you've uploaded too, you could also try that.

@benny they told me its against the nekoweb TOS.. also @frammyjammy thank you for the suggestion! I wanna try filegarden and see how that holds up 4 now, thats what I use to host my site button

if you pay $5 you can host up to 50gb on neocities, you can cancel your subscription and won't lose the files, but if you want to manage them you gonna have to subscribe again. You can host up to 15gb for free on Google Drive, and 2gb for free on Dropbox. C

Afaik Catbox bandwidth is not very reliable for streaming videos, and Internet Archive bandwidth is also pretty limited, but at least they are not a massive evil corporation like Google
