I love the concept of Wikidiving! It's pretty fun (also, Wikipedia is pretty great even for some serious research, since they tend to cite a bunch of useful sources in the references, which can be a helpful springboard). By the way I found something quite interesting and useful on the article you linked to (People's Park) so thanks for the indication as well!

They would have started out as independents, but over time got bought out until everything is owned by one or two companies, or the person who started the company borrowed money from them but couldn't pay it back so they ended up taking the assets of the company off them, like Warleggan in Poldark.
