Preventable aura loss: I was stress-testing my site with 50,000 file uploads to test if there was a file limit for someone, and now my site update counter on my Neocities profile has an extra 50,000 and it looks wrong and bad. How could I have been so foolish

It is just a counter, but you should know better, your bandwidth is 15x larger and a burst of events would not mean much coming from a single account. The mistake IMO is trying to stress test the hosting service, if you hit a quota or trigger a rate limit you risk getting a response from Neocities. Neocities policy on abuse is disperse, but this may be seen as unfriendly activity (https://neocities.org/terms).
Yeah I reached out to them hoping they can reset my counter and that I won't do that again. It's not the end of the world if the amount is stuck like that, it just feels dishonest to have this inflated number
