Heard from friends that big YouTubers are now starting to learn how to use Neocities, this place might about to grow real fast. MAN it had to be the one month where I'm in the middle of moving places --- UPDATE: This is kind of a scary prospect actually
i predict an uptick in people using pre-made layouts with almost no changes other than color. maybe they'll leave after they discover websites aren't inconvenient, but we might, for a short time, be overwhelmed with people expecting convenience. i shudder at the thought
i also feel like this is bad for a reason that is harder to articulate and maybe makes me sound like a pretentious dick....Neocities and other site hosts are already really easy to find, actually, if you know what you're looking for. people who wanted to find it, would. now, though, it's more visible people who didn't know or care what they were missing, it's like giving Myspace to someone used to Tiktok or Instagram
I think I have some faith in people. Tbf I almost did the whole template route and almost gave up on coding a few times. The only reason I kept going is because I was procrastinating from doing my illustration stuff…
i mean no matter how or why people arrive here, more people choosing the indie web instead of the big social medias is a good thing. but i dont know if neocities growing bigger is a good thing in itself? i think we're gonna need to remind ourselves to not focus too much on numbers or followers and remember why we started our sites in the 1st place before we end up w the same behavior we're trying to escape from here
shift in the zeitgeist. its gonna be a shock at first. a good thing for the zeitgeist overall. anything away from hyper consumption can only be good. but not really good for the niche. gym in January. not an issue for me i find sites from of sites i already like.
you guys are right. no matter where people are coming from, if they make something good, that's what matters. i just don't have faith in people, not even myself. those kinds of numbers can be addicting
I mean, from what I know, Onio (onio.club) did make a youtube video about the indie web but they've been on here for 3 years now. I definitely got an uptick on my stats + guestbook from his video but people have been really nice! TBH I don't think people will learn how to code en masse from this
I think it could be a good thing, but at the same time I'm afraid of the number of empty sites we'll get from ppl who will only join to follow their favorite creators, which is not the end of the world by itself but oof x__X
Yeah on second thought it's dawning on me how much of an impact this might make, good or bad. God I hope it's just a boom-and-bust and then everything stays the same
In this case, SrPelo! Wow https://bsky.app/profile/srpelo.bsky.social/post/3mfdl2p5tl22y
am i the only one who doesn't think is good, per se?
Someone hold my hand I’m nervous
i predict most will not stay

good is subjective. i guess i just mean that i want things to come from the heart
and i'm scared of people

It is good, I think. There would be more beautiful websites, but i totally agree with pocketdollhouse :)
Good for the internet. Not necessarily good for the culture of Neocities.
