I'm only just now reading your review of In The Miso Soup and I think, if you're not totally soured on Murakami (or at least the past 3 months have settled your distaste), that his novel Coin Locker Babies is more your speed. Its been years since I read it, but ugh it was sooo good!! The twist is much better, too. Also it's only available in English, so no chance to poorly translate your native language lol
Oh I'll give it a try! The premise looks interesting. Yeah my main problem really was the translation (the silly twist i can forgive lmao) and I generally enjoyed the characters and the more uncomfortable/distressing themes he explored
