i dont completely understand the bias against likes on art on social media. obviously reblogs lead to more exposure and therefore more notes but.. if youre getting likes, that means people still enjoy and care about your art?
I think it's mostly for people who are trying to build a career or audience as an artist. Just doing stuff for fun, it's always happy to see that people like your things. But a lot of people have difficulty reaching the audience they need for commissions and so forth if the art they do for free is only ever seen by the same small group.
The paradox is that original works are liked, but fandom works are spread. So the people getting wide audiences are usually the people doing things for fun and not those who are trying to create their own platforms.

now THAT i understand. getting your passion project "out there" on the internet can be very difficult for a number of reasons
