Considering adding an audience age rating for my website. There are some topics I touch on and some images that probably shouldn't be viewed by children. But I'm not sure if a rating is more hepful or hurtful - thoughts? Also, I can't find one right now, but I've seen a generalized audience age rating image on some websites here on Neocities - anyone know where to look into that more or is that a self-made thing?

Here's one I managed to find: http://www.mabsland.com/Adoption.html - I believe there is another one I've seen several times, as well.

Hmmm...I don't think ratings hurt any. For the most part, I think they can be helpful in giving people an idea of the type of content that they can expect...

...Personally, I wasn't sure how to rate my site. It is intended to be friendly and helpful for everyone, but it does touch upon very serious topics sometimes. So, I settled on trying to put content warnings on individual pages when stuff that might be triggering or not appropriate for children comes up.

I like the idea of adding content warnings on specific pages, as opposed to entire site. So simple, why hadn't I thought of it lol? My condern with audience ratings, period, is that they can almost become a magnet for the audience who *shouldn't* view - at least in my hazy memory of being a kid during the implementation of the music rating system, because stuff with ratings is what I went looking for, haha.

Haha! Yeah, I can see that. It's almost like the "Streisand Effect". Sometimes when things are treated as "taboo", kids seek them out just to find out what all the fuss is, especially if they are not provided with any clear explanations as to why they might want to avoid it (e.g.: a safety issue or a parent's bias?).

You can always have a general rating for your site and then have Content Warnings for specific pages, blog entries, etc. That's what I do. I use the mabsland rating image partly because I've used it since the old days. :)

for images that need a cw, I have a snippet of js that toggles between a blurred version of an image to an unblurred version, which isn't unblurred until a veiwer clicks a button. Its not fool proof but its better than nothing. If you want the code I could send it to you if you have a more direct means of contact :D

Anyone else got Teeny Towers out there? Also, if you see updates and you've visited in the last day or so, don't worry it's just typo fixes.

I read all your journals, and I find you extremely intriguing. But tragic at the same time. It's hard to find websites of any substance here, so nice.
