I muse about oversharing on the internet for a long time--maybe some of you can relate? :o
yesss!! i can totally relate. i love that we're all sort of on this wavelength of thinking abt how we interact w the internet... i just made my own blog talking a lot abt it too! i absolutely agree though that people get Way too comfortable sharing a lot all the time.. it can just foster these really unhealthy relationships with people who might read, n it gets so murky...
I agree with you so much, the way that I've watched the internet evolve has been so surreal. As it stands, internet culture cultivates unhealthy boundaries online. The thing is, at least years ago, it was semi-anonymous with pseudonyms. The stuff I see people post on places like TikTok with their names attached scares me sometimes!
boundaries a lifelong lesson fr... wanna ponder on this more too tho maybe just to myself >:-D have struggled w boundaries in other shit but have landed in a healthy enough intermediary state wrt being online...
sooo real what you said about oversharing being different from vulnerability + communication. i love a good boundary
@tehuan I saw that you wrote a post, I'm gonna check it out and comment on it ASAP! Ahhh that's so cool that we're in the place. The murkiness is a good way to describe it, it kinda reminds me of the controversy of "parasocial relationships" that has sprung up in the last few years!
@sanguineroyal Glad to hear we're on the same page!! Surreal is a good word to describe its evolution. Totally agree that some stuff that gets attached to identities is shocking. On my site I try to post that I would be comfortable with my IRLs seeing and knowing, you know??
@sneekrealm they really are tbh, and they change and fluctuate through your life too! I'm happy that you've a system of online boundaries you're happy with though!! ♡
@getcubed we LOVE a good boundary, they change lives!! I'm happy to hear this resonated with you too ; __ ; ♡♡
ah yes...i grew up on an internet that found boundaries offensive and suspicious, and it's still hard for me to keep in mind that we are not spectacles on a stage here to be evaluated or graded. it did a number on my developing brain and it only seems to be getting worse, now with real names attached. it's scary. good post!
@nenrikido thank you for reading, I'm happy that you liked and could relate!! It always blows my mind how your behavior is affected by what you're exposed to at vulnerable periods. If we were in environments where weak boundaries are modeled, where it's normal to reveal the most personal parts of yourself, then you might internalize and copy it!!
Ouch... I found this on the activity feed and I relate. Being online too young unfortunately let to oversharing too much as a teenager and its still online... It's always existed but it's gotten worse.
@hardmachine heyyy I'm so happy you found this, thank you for reading and checking this out!! Agreed that it's gotten worse. That's the scary thing though... like even if we delete things, there's the possibility of them still existing in some capacity @ __ @; knowing this really makes you conscious of what you wanna share!!
