What do you guys think about asynchronous communication? Think emails, comments... A slower paced kind of interaction. Do you prefer that kind of interaction or a more real time approach (like a live chat)? What do you think of each of these options?
The more you want to preserve the messages and be able to search them later, the asyncs are better. I really enjoyed the combination of two on discord when I was commited to worldbuilding RP, we got channels for official messages - neatly written and no spam, and next to them channels for chit-chats and talks about the details. Oh and I always check out the comments everywhere they are :D
Those are such nice inputs, thank you everyone! I want to add the comments to my microblog (and in my art gallery thats still doesn't exist) but I'm also trying to think of a different kind of interaction, following this async approach. Something like a penpal style or even a board where people can just share their thoughts... Who knows! To be fair I'm kinda bored of the live chat thing lol
i prefer slower communication. i've hated read receipts from the start. i will always respond where necessary but hate the pressure to respond immediately
não sou muito fã dos chats, prefiro a ideia de ser ou essa "comunicação assíncrona" ou então chamada de áudio/vídeo mesmo quando quero falar com um amigo.
I appreciate asynchronous communication: Without the pressure of real-time response, there's less need to perform quick wit, certainty, or social fluency. People who process slowly, who need time to articulate, who English isn't their first language I find asynchronous communication is more accessible to different cognitive styles and removes some ableist assumptions about "normal" communication speed.
This is so cool! Im loving all the replies, cant wait to come up with something more asynchronous on kuroiOS hehe, but i agree with all of you! I guess it's pretty much the reason i dont like discord very much and have a hard time keeping up with it. Sometimes we just need to slow down really
I actually like both options... both have their own benefit imo. It also may depend on the mood... I think you should give it a go, but not remove the other option as well...
i'm actually much more for real-time methods of communication: being chronically ill means i can't meet up with people irl as often as i want to, but talking to them real-time online gives me a similar feeling of sharing a place together with someone :] i do enjoy exchanging emails or talking slowly occasionally with some people though: the two can coexist!
I definitely prefer asynchronous communication above most kinds! Being autistic, I struggle with thinking on my feet in social situations, which causes a ton of anxiety for me. But if I can think through what I want to say through text, then I find interactions a lot easier.
I do want to make interactions easier and welcoming to everyone! The chat won't be removed and I'll just add comments to my posts and maybe another form of asyn for those who'd like to communicate with me, stay tuned :D
In my opinion, Neocities serves to revive the old web, when communication was still genuine and there was none of today's toxic culture of speed. That's why I love everything that's slow, here. It's much healthier. You may have noticed that I don't even use Likes very much, precisely because they remind me too much of modernity, eheh.
asynch gives me old school internet vibes, so i like that one more ehehe :3
@ventablack that's true! I guess I'm missing that vibe of not having to be available at all times xD
I prefer comments :)
@devhank I'm thinking of implementing a comment system on my microblog 👀
I never got into the live chat stuff, I'm old, it's async for me all the way! email, snail mail, voicemail boxes

i’ve always liked slower communication, it is a bit at risk of me forgetting to reply, but i’d works better with my energy

@iSmile yeah I won't remove the chat but guess i just don't want to focus that much on it xD just to try something different

I like the idea but I'm horrible at starting or participating in it
