Probably depends on the Vtuber. I can't speak for how 'fun' it is since I'm not them, but what I do know is that the livers for more popular groups are essentially doing it as a job. That'd include Hololive and Nijisanji. There's also quite a bit of drama they can get every now and then, most notably recently was involving Hololive and China. They're probably enjoying the work though.
You also have independents who can make money but more than likely just do it for their own enjoyment. People who get around 10-1000 viewers a stream, like VOMs and such.
