looking into it further, it seems only to affect external tools, like chatboxes and guestbooks. since the only iframes I've got reference local pages it wouldn't affect me. still, that's rubbish. like, WHY do that?

it's probably for security reasons. a lot of neocities' less noticed traffic is obvious scams and malicious shit that doesn't work. pretty sure it's just so bad actors can't embed other pages with even worse shit onto here. i really don't care about this change, you should probably be local-hosting a lot of your stuff anyways.

yeah i had a feeling. looking at the backend github, it looks like kd's been having some trouble with stuff lately (mainly things breaking because dependencies keep having their versions changed and obsoleting the old ones)

tbh i feel like this is one of those "happens to the best of us" situations; not much you can do other than patch issues as they come, but i do hope drake the best with keeping this place functional

huh, if it was an unintentional issue i can try my iframes again … i get security reasons otherwise but… with external js already being blocked outside of using it in iframes, it’d feel shitty to lock that to supporter costs too

My main takeaway from this is that I wish there was a reliable communication channel because a lot of people freaked out but "oops looking into this" goes a long way

wholeheartly agree with this. I keep copies of all the VNs I like on a hard drive because the porn game sites I download them from will inevitably die!

I wish I adopted this idea sooner - there's quite a bit of art from Japanese Geocities sites (for an old game nobody knows/remembers) that's just gone forever now. I have a piece on the pinboard in my room that was printed out in 2005 and it may be the only surviving copy of this particular piece of art.

the online art community definitely influenced a lot of how we see art. a lot of arguments for not reposting art lie heavily on the monetization of art, which is an entire thing that also sucks. on the other hand is the intimacy of the art; I wouldn't want others repurposing something special that I created. but then if I really didn't want that to happen, I would know to not just share it online

art seeps deep. it's kinda wrong to birth such a thing into a big world only to leash it up. we really can't control what other people do to our art but I don't think we should see that as a bad thing unless it literally kills you or something
