We can spin a shape ("rotation"), we can slide it ("translation"), and/or we can mirror it ("reflection"). We spin things *around* a point, we can slide things *along* a straight line, and we can mirror things *over* a straight line as if the line itself was a mirror. All of these movements are "transformations" because we are "transforming" or changing the position of a shape in some way.
