@bmh I see. You could be right about it being a fault in one of the chips (I would check the RAM first), or it could be something as simple as a bad connection because of rust or other stuff. What happens if you press reset for a bit?
@displayman I have used deoxit and reseated the few socketed chips. Pressing reset just cycles the effect; it was also doing a chequeboard pattern. I have ordered some replacement RAM and sockets; they'll take a while to arrive.
