Has anyone else here actually read through S.686 - RESTRICT Act (aka "The TikTok Ban")? I've spent the last few hours going through this purposed legislation and it's BAD news. If any one has any additional information/takes on it please let me know, this looks like it could have some really negative implications for the US's digital liberties.

I'm not a legal expert so it's a little difficult making sense of this all, but from my understanding it gives the Secretary of Commerce the power to ban apps, websites, even online games. Media keeps only talking about TikTok but never the actual contents (or even name!) of this bill, it has uniparty/White House support too.

You mean to tell me they earmarked a bunch of things into a bill that has one good thing going for it? And that one good thing was used to get people in support of the bill while they didn't talk about any of the bill's other propositions? How evil!

im hoping its just a nothing burger. im gonna read through it and probably write something on my thoughts of it. if its got a bunch of other bad things mixed in a bill, it wouldn't surprise me but I am hoping not especially with it being a TikTok ban too.

If they can start banning apps, websites, online games, etc then this definitely isn't good. To think I might end up not being for a TikTok ban but because they're gonna gain a ton of power to ban other shit. If this is the case, this aint good

Not sure if this is a neocities first, but enjoy some lost Ryuichi Sakamoto media at the bottom of this update. His "Asian Flowers" album isn't easy to come by.

Just curious, have you ever listened to the Japanese edition of YMO self titled? There's a few interesting differences between the two, and I personally prefer the Japanese edition

@voodu the main differences I recall between the US and Japanese version was the vocals on Tong Poo being present in the US version and slightly different mixing overall. I prefer the US version, but that's probably because I have it on vinyl

I've been using ChatGPT to essentially automate trolling on Reddit, I feed it ridiculous prompts and force it to write first person accounts/posts for the site. This strategy may be worth looking into if Quora is a bust these days, I've had a varying degree of success getting responses, just depends on the subreddit.

@dc-blog to clarify the "automation" part is using ChatGPT to write the posts, still gotta copy and paste the GPT posts in to reddit. Although I'm sure someone with enough know how could fully automate the entire process

Another concern is the structure of the posts themselves, can't they tell that its chatgpt by the way it is written? I'm curious because those answers i mentioned can be spotted from a mile away

Haha of course they are, I've noticed a few recurring style/formatting patterns with GPT as well, you may need to make a few changes here and there to the output. Helps if you tell it to write in the style of [x] too. Going in and butchering the grammar/spelling helps throw off those concerns, even when I tell GOT to be grammatically incorrect it seems to refuse to.

Although he was one of those 'geniuses' that thought it would be a wonderful idea to hide the dislikes, she'll always be a symbol of that one site's fall.
I am no legal expert so this is at least what I've got reading the bill and some other takes on it. Any suggestions/changes are welcomed!
im still trying to figure out the bill as of now, i'll probably break down my opinions on it into sections (such as section 1, section 2 of the bill, etc)
