my hope is that this ends up driving people back to dedicated forums. im very sad to see communities focused on various things converge to a subreddit when they have a forum for the thing (first thing that comes to mind being the haxe programming language, which has had a huge chunk of community information cut off by virtue of people using the subreddit instead of their own existing and somewhat active forum)

The X-Files fan page instantly made a usenet post referring to Krychek as “Ratboy” pop into my head, with an associated image of Mulder in the back of a truck- I started watching halfway through and caught up in reruns, so I’d try to piece the myth arc episodes together through newsgroup discussions. It was weirdly specific nostalgia!

Some pretty useful prints. Any future projects planned? One of the nice things about printing is that it can be a nice way to get a positive that you can take through different processes. Make a silicone mould and pour in some concrete for instance.

Thanks! no plans at the moment. sadly the bettery atacchment is very heavy so i might not use it. But it is neat! :)

I turned 41 today. This last year I realized how much time I spent watching TV shows and cut waaaaaay back. Read more. Got into 3d printing. Rebuilt my IT homelab. Made a dent in my Steam library. Re-found my passion for learning. Finally got COVID, but got Paxlovid. Closed most of my social media accounts. all in all 40 was a good year.

huh looks like i was off by a large amount on how much it costs to host a mastodon instance properly. by a couple thousand dollars. If you like independent web media, please kick your instance some money.

mastodon instances are under a huge amount of stress at the moment, please be patient with their admins.

also when i price out cloud services for like 5,000 users costs are around 100-200 a month. You are going to want to kick them some money to run the instance if it's super important to you.
