i don't personally feel comfortable with the idea of posting on newgrounds. it has a history of being pungently bigoted across the board and being full up of some of the most rancid stuff on the internet. is a website with this kind of baggage REALLY as good as a platform for animators gets???

I've tried Newgrounds in the past since I know the founder is really trying to branch out the site and go past that reputation. Unfortunately I've found that unless your work immediately pertains to the core community (animation collabs on NG stuff you might not care about, FNF, 2010s flash humor, etc) then it's kinda lonely. Sure there's other artists that cross-post there but you can tell they don't main NG

I have the same issue! I'd love to finally start posting my art somewhere that isn't social media or my site, but when I get reccommended NG, I just frown. Whether the content there is still as awful as it was or has gotten better, I just can't make myself comfortable with the idea of posting there, let alone making an account there

Oh god I feel this 100%. I don't think I've ever really used Newgrounds for more than like, five minutes in the past because it always feels *impossible* to avoid coming across that kinda stuff. Someone needs to make a direct competitor fr.

it has a substancial amount of warts but the thing to keep in mind is that it has those warts purely because it's been around since before the turn of the millenium. as for posting art there, it's strange to admit but compared to all the other options, NG is the one that will allow for the most creative freedom/meeting of like-minded persons compared to every other option available

WOW!... i love the changing colors and silly noise on the homepage, the device museum is full of amazing shouts (LOVED cube world!), the tablings themselves are ADORABLE, and everything is so well designed!

this site is very lovely! the design is very clean, i love the faint checkers in the background... Gangpol und Mit is a great shout out, happy to find another fan of them here on neocities! also i hope u get to see Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds soon, it's a lovely lovely movie

I've been looking around for CC-BY Attribution licensed albums and songs that I could use as background music for livestreams, videos like animations, maybe other projects. I would appreciate any suggestions :>

Music with CC-BY-NC (Non-Commercial) licenses I would rather avoid given most video/streaming sites (besides internet archive) frequently put commercial ads on non-monetized videos anyways, it feels too close for comfort IMO. CC-BY-SA (Share Alike) is more of a case-by-case basis for me, depends on the project and personal preference as to Sharing it Alike

honestly while uniqueness in design certainly matters, i feel accessibility takes higher priority over form. maybe not every website will hit every accessibility benchmark, but a unique design only goes so far if it's not, say, screen reader compatible (meaning those who need screen readers can't read it)

for related reasons i kinda balk at mobile hostility in web design. as many understandable gripes we have with smartphones, computers are usually more Expensive and a lot of people may not have the funds to spare to buy one, nor have easy access to public computers. and in my case i wouldn't want people to be shut out from my site just for not being able to use a desktop

you are completely right and it's honestly very saddening how hostile people are on the indieweb to mobile users. A simple "This site is not mobile accessible" would work just fine, but I've come across an uncomfortable number of sites that are like "fuck mobile users" "fuck you for using a mobile". Even if I'm on my desktop I click off immediately, it's such a nasty way to announce how inaccessible your site is

Slightly opposed to the "having a pc is classist" view, i think that buying a refurb laptop for 50 bucks and learning how to use debian on it is an act of resistance which is cheaper than, say, a new smartphone. I 100% agree with the accessibility part, hence my site has a switchable stripped-down mode. >>

But while making things accessible, we gotta keep pushing against smartphonization and not paint computers as something out-of-reach. Don't forget that part of the reason it's happening is cause statistically people make big purchases faster on a small screen, cause a PC is associated with seriousness, while a smartphone is more impulse zone. And companies *love* that

i agree w astrosoundhell 100%... also, i actually made a mobile version of my site because i use it to share my work and i know mobile users will see it, but the truth is that most of us are here because we love building websites for desktop... i dont see why someone should be forced to limit their creativity to a tiny reactangle that doesnt align with their vision of what a website should be

it's not like i think websites shouldn't be mobile accesible, but rather i think it's like trying to accommodate a group of people that just isnt really there? if you're making websites or you're interested in them its probably because you have a computer
