y2k should honestly just mean the internet at the time of 99-00s bcus well. y2k. the rest fall into other things with defined names...it doesn't bother me but its tiring to use it as umbrella term when subcultures have other names!

Isn't that how it always was treated, though? Everyone has their own idealized version of what "Y2K," "Frutiger Aero," etc. are like, and when you get down to it they all boil down to a yearning for back when the internet wasn't taken so seriously.

I never liked it when people say something is y2k but they reference McBling/UrBling and nothing else. Each to their own and all but these corportised aesthetics that were popular in the 2000s were not part of what makes y2k aesthetics so great especially since these corporate aesthetics were ripping off of other styles such as schoolgirl heisei era fashion
it's like public school cafeteria lunch bad
