On a certain level I get being scared others might like it. On the other hand, it's your corner of the web, do it for you and fuck anyone else. Also since you're keeping an archive, you can always revert back.
I change my site every few months or so, only because I get bored with the look, and I always back an archive previous designs just incase i want to return to one. And I agree do it for you, not anyone else.
