Are you sure you want to do this?
I def don't think it'll happen but what if?
more people to follow!
i think if more people got on here, it would mean that they've decided to use a social media that requires a lot of work from the user, and one that doesn't have any predatory systems in place, which would be a good thing for society! if people were pickier about their social media, cybersecurity would be a lot less of a problem :/
and what u said about creativity too! having to start from scratch gives you so much creative control it almost FORCES you to be creative, which is something i think that everyone could use
i think itd be ok, u can always just block the ppl u dont like (even tho the block function barely works) and what volbot said above!
Just as long as they're not all identical "hey remember the '90s??" Geocities pastiches made by people born in 2005
I think I'd be happy overall, but I'd be worried about a massive amount of people's influence on the platform. Regardless, I've been begging my friends to join me since I signed up.
On a more serious note, nothing would bring me more joy and hope for the future of the internet (and, by extension, western society) than people suddenly deleting their social media on mass and going back to making personal sites and blogs again, so i’d be quite happy with it :-)
Facebook and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race etc etc
similar thoughts to what's already been said ^ I'd be really happy to have more blogs to read and personal sites to explore ^_^ the social aspect is pretty contained depending on who you follow. I don't think I would notice a significant change unless I was browsing the activity tab
I think it would be a positive thing overall. On the one hand, I understand being concerned that an influx of people would negatively alter the really cool culture Neocities has going for it, or causing bad changes to the platform as a whole. On the other hand, the creative freedom is a great feeling that I definitely think more people should experience!
i think it would be good to see more people getting interested in making their own site and learning html
But what if Neocities got so popular it then got bought up by big tech?
i would love to see more people embracing a more free and open web, but i worry somewhat about malicious actors and bots. whenever a budding social media gets popular alot of individual & unique content gets thrown by the wayside i've noticed
even then making a website is a very INVOLVED hobby so maybe my fears are unfounded!
it would be great but only if those new people embraced the diy and anti-surveillance ideals that a lot of neocities users currently have.
@ BMH, luckily brands can't be spontaneously bought out, both sides have to agree, and since Neocities has a good idea behind it, I don't think the creator would sell unless he had to. But on another note, my fear would be that HTML templates could become a big thing, so ppl might take them, make one home page, and use it like Carrd, and the idea of making your own Neocities site might get watered down...
