I like your corn idea. in 2025 one of my goals was to read and learn more about ingredients generally to get a better grasp on the history and making of foods I eat. it's been more than just a history of food - history of people, communication, and the world. very cool stuff.

I'm wondering if all the "2025 is the year of..." instances were more of a journalistic verbal tic than anybody making a statement about 2025. I'm pretty sure that if something happened or appeared 2-3 times, in 2025, suddenly 2025 was the year of that thing. Cliches like that tend to spread like wildfire through magazines and blogs, and AI can't be helping.

@emilynhoward I agree, and I’d add that it’s also media outlets out to make a buck on affiliate sales by making things appear trendier than they are. GQ called out striped towels in May, never to be spoken of again. The towel they suggested is $89. I think some other items on the list might have more to them, though. For example, anime movies ARE growing in popularity.

The only items I noticed that resurfaced throughout the year, though, were AI and crypto. There were so many articles about them that I stopped adding most entries. They’re so buzzy I’m sure 2026 and beyond will also be the year of them.

you may not find the pencil, maybe it was a one-time promotional item... but you could will it into existence and have it custom made! i dont know if they are any good but it must be possible

Thanks! I had a lot of fun building it; under the hood it's 11ty in a github repo with an automated write to neocities. A lot of its design was influenced by what 11ty makes easy/has in its starter blog repo, but it also may or may not be influenced by the playskool tape recorder we used to use to make madcap radio shows as kids

Now that the year's almost ever, I can finally say what I've been thinking for months: this year in movies was mid. I have a few more on the docket through the rest of the year, so luckily the atrocious Five Nights at Freddy's 2 won't be the last thing I see in 2025.

if you don't know already, the link for bath maniac blog in the internet places list is a 404. the zurac link works on my laptop but not my phone? not sure why that is. love your collections :-)
