house update. i attended my first condo board meeting. my house is a townhouse with 7 other houses in the block. the only thing the houses share, which the condo board must manage, is a driveway... and yet the meeting devolved into intense passive aggressive conflict within 15m. i was so stressed out. what have i gotten myself into

You ought to have written it on a typewriter and posted pictures of the pages. And then typed it all out again on the computer for the alt text.

thanks for this essay, i know you said you donβt romanticise the typewriter yet itβs still so cozy to think about drafting at that pace. bouncing ball imagery makes me think of pianists, iβm sure an obvious comparison β they way they strike the keys so purposefully and precisely

@sorbier I was thinking about including the piano as a comparison because I imagine the mechanics are very similar to a typewriter. But I've never played piano so I didn't know if the feel would be similar.

@ghostscape I feel like I have been forthcoming as possible about how much of a pain in the butt typewriters are, so if this didn't dissuade you, nothing will.

i am really curious about it as a physical experience (among other things). i used to play piano and i assume i'll be needing to rebuild those finger muscles

You'll probably have a head start because you used to play piano, but yes, finger strength is definitely necessary!

This was fascinating. I understand to some extent the forearm pain. Using braille input on a normal qwerty keyboard involves pushing multiple keys down at the same time in a sort of rhythm and I get pain after doing it for awhile. A Perkins brailler is much like a typewriter in design - I've never used one but it's a fascinating piece of machinery if you want to look up about it.

congrats on the house! i know you say you don't like double walled bottles but out of all the bottles i've had (and ive had a lot) i've enjoyed Hydroflasks a lot because they can keep my water at a cool temp in 100+ F weather

I can relate; I was well into adulthood when I self-diagnosed. The avoidance tactics are real and I definitely need those rails in place for my off-days!
yay I'm happy for you! I'm also checking if I have autism and adhd and I feel it's very likely. I think I need to know if there's anything special with what you're doing in obsidian, because I found out about this app 2 years ago and it does not work

@heart143 it actually wasnt my first time trying obsidian, I already tried it several years ago and it didnt click back then. i think i'll write in microblog later what was different this time and describe my system in more detail
