A wonderful article as usual. I had been unaware of the existence of the WTFPL, as well the nuances of the various other licenses, but I wholeheartedly agree with your expressed views. The second ED quote is the first time I laughed at that website in ten years. I remember sending random Omegle users to nimp under the guise of a Justin Bieber fansite, which is the most 2010s edgy preteen thing I can think of. I hope God forgives all the childhoods I ruined. has anyone noticed that sometimes, when using the neocities editor, that it'll roll back to a previous version sometimes, even if you've saved? i'm not crazy am i lmao

Microsoft Edge does that. Changes on the CSS page are usually the problem. I don't think it's anything to do with neocities - it's more likely a bug in the browser you're using. If you check back later, the updates are there.

i'm using firefox. i did just install an update for it though so i'll see if that fixes the issue.

I don't know if it's the same for everyone but sometimes I end up forgetting that I'm wearing a mask until I start thinking "hell, it's becoming increasingly harder to breathe. Time to take this off."

I've seen some fellow cyclists, and walkers in the middle of nowhere wearing masks. I also see a fair number of motorists who fail to turn off their turn signal after passing me on my bike, I find it quite amusing.

@cheru That makes a lot more sense. Thank you for shedding some light on this behaviour. @bmh It always befuddles me when people forget to turn it off. Cars specifically make a repeating sound when you have a turn signal on, and eventually start doing the warning beep if you don't turn it off for long enough!

Your thoughts in the fifth item remind me of my observations while in China of how the people there drove, which, due to the looser and more chaotic traffic environment, made them far more attentive to everything. I feel that U.S. traffic regulations are too minute and comprehensive, and consequently U.S. drivers have become like inattentive robots who don't think when they drive.

Thank you for your insight, @lolwut. That does make a lot of sense. There is definitely too much focus on following minute rules while driving in this country, and I can see how that would at least contribute to the problem. I think I even read somewhere years ago that it was proven that the excess amount of road signs actually made people in America drive worse.

go here: https://www.phoenix.wildman-productions.org/ its a bit of a Process. after you make an account, you download the version of AIM you want to use (i'm doing 5.0) plus AIM Tamer. you need to run both because AIM will freeze your computer as-is, even if you use compatibility mode. after installing you change the host address in setup to w/e the url is in the FAQ page and you should be able to log in

i'm not sure how to relay this info otherwise, but specifically your background images never seem to load for me, both on your old site and this updated one... i inspected the source code to see if i could figure out what it was and suspect it may be the ful url used for the bg image; it can be shortened to "/img/spacebg.gif" and should still work. though it's fine if you'd rather not change anything about it too --

-- i'm not sure why this would matter at all, especially since i can "view background image" from a right click and it shows up fine. might be a firefox quirk; i'm really just not sure.
