Neocities

Not posting this on the site because then I’d be what we in the industry call a massive hypocrite but it gets on my nerves when I see a cool-looking website and then the only content on it is about how much they miss Le Old Web before they invented capitalism or whatever. It was a cool fun new idea a few dozen sites ago but please I'm begging you just write about gardening or Zootopia fanfiction or something

What makes the free web beautiful is the sheer diversity in topics covered and how the little idiosyncracies and quirks in people's interests shine through — it makes me a little sad how most sites in the modern revival movement are just lamenting about their own existence!

Its great to hear this comming from you. You were one of the driving influences for me starting this website! i tried doing stuff on neocities before but was not very good at it, and didnt keep it updated. this time around i am more motivated to keep it going, so hopefully you find the things to come on the website interesting

To reduce load on my end, I have decided to (probably) stop crossposting updates from my main site to Neocities. Viva la free web, et cetera! RSS feeds and the option of just checking it every so often will remain available. :-)

This post was originally accompanied by an extensive, extensive rant about some imaginary stereotypical Neocities website but it was such a flagrant violation of my "no cynicism" policy and really the only reason I hammered it out was to get it out of my system and because I'd had a shit day; my apologies

i used to have -ery but i don't really use it anymore, i dropped it for even worse lexemes like general an ('an thing') and /*ks/→⟨x⟩ ('graphx' 'effex'). i could write a page about my silly way of speaking and i should.

Fair point! It was a BBC documentary on OneTaste, I thought they said that some OneTasters came from the same social circle as Hubbard but maybe I misremember or they meant it in a general way. Anyway, if I've just spread untruths about Hubbard, I REGRET NOTHING

A few links added, a few links trimmed. Two new tags: “Americana”, to complement the other two geographic tags, and “Fledglings”, for the opposite of a classic website. It’ll forever irk me that the most popular page on my site is the one that directs people elsewhere, but hey, that’s what i get for putting effort into it!

I get that tagging languages is important for accessibility and such, but whenever I set lang="grc" for something, I do always wonder who on *earth* is equipped with a screen reader that supports Ancient Greek

Added a terribly silly little detail — the subtitles on the English version of the page now look like BBC subtitles, and the subtitles on the Dutch version now look like NPO subtitles :-)

“A Christmas Carol” has been added to the Codex — in part to test how the format might look for an entire book, but mostly just because it’s a lovely little read at any time of year. :-)
