I've been thinking and brainstorming for (looks at last update) 3 wks now and I still haven't an idea what to do w/ my site... I really dislike the little journal I have and other things, but to remove them would leave the entire middle category empty... I really want to have some sort of "about" and other fun personal things but I'm really unsure how to go abt it, I'm always self conscious when talking abt myself

I've been wanting to just add more random images of things I like, whether they be games or characters but I'm also worried abt my site looking "aimless"... not that it should matter bcuz it's my website! but I really do worry abt it a lot... we'll see, I've just been slowly cleaning up code again, working on side projects, and drawing.. so hopefully I feel inspired again soon! <3

Don't worry about it! Your site is your site. And you can totally put random images of things you like as a placeholder, or for as long as you want. It's all good!

at the moment, my next task is to manually upload outgoing/affiliate buttons to my own site files instead of hotlinking, if anyone would like their button changed from what is currently listed, or would like to exchange buttons plz let me know! as long as there's no intense flashing/rainbow fx m(__)m thank you for being patient w/ me

I know saying this may make me sound "stupid" in some way but, only recently did I come back to visual studio code once I learnt there was a "live preview" extension, since I always coded blog layouts on tumblr there was always a live preview to reference so, over time that's just how I became comfortable coding, meaning I've been coding everything w/ tumblr's live preview until now... orz (to be continued)

tldr; I'm asking if anyone else requires a "live preview" next to their code while working on their sites, rather than refreshing a webpage? I'm interested in "what does everyone else do" bcuz only *now* am I looking into alternative ways to code after telling myself "tumblr live preview won't last forever"

i use brackets and i can't lie i literally just found out it had a live preview section this entire time. i've been refreshing my pages each time i've made a single edit. you are a lifesaver

back then when i was starting out i used to write directly on the neocities ide, pressing update and praying it hasnt borken anything. nowadays i use vsc with a an extension that runs a local webserver (five server, derivative of live server) which i can use to preview live on the computer and other devices on the lan. every time i save the file it automatically refreshes all browsers connected to it, very convinient

I love VSCode and that same extension. When I started it was an editor called brackets that had a live preview function so yeah it helps a lot.

I run my site locally on my computer and I use an extension called "Live Server". Instead of Live Preview that has the page only in the VSC window, I got it also in my browser. But way back then when I first started, I used the editor built into Neocities..... and that was a pain to double check every time you changed something

Live replay? THAT'S A THING?!?!? omg I was working with Neocities' editor on 2 tabs and my site on another, switching between them. Well at least now I have a reason to try out vsc

@dagio-lol yes! bcuz of this I was using tumblr's live editor for custom pages for the longest time, but vsc has a a few plug-ins for live preview! currently I use live preview by microsoft, plz do try it!

@faintlymacabre haha, sometimes I feel like coding is hoping for the best, and if it doesn't work out, you slowly tweak it until it *does* work, and then never touch it again so to not break it

wackyworkbench will be 8 yrs old in 2025! although I barely updated the website back then (and it had a different site name entirely!) I'm still happy looking back at how much more I've worked on the website this year in 2024 :3 let's all continue to work hard together!

@wackyworkbench hey, documenting all this and small details takes a lott of time to do. I know you'll figure it out eventually, it'll come together as you make it. But so far this is sooo well done, I really like pages like this, you posting screenshots too adds to it. If you ever feel tired making something like this, always stop, rest and come back to it later, take your time

Hey hey, I agree with you, there's something special about it I can't explain, I'm always thinking about how much time was put into everything, all those backgrounds aren't fillers, they spent so much time on them. You're making me want to watch the OVA again lol, I think I watched it again some time last month

@radicalblur yeah, and know the OVA was actually a pilot to pitch an entire series really makes you wonder abt everything that we lost, were the other islands developed? were there other warp zones? knuckles was exploring the sinking skyscrapers nearby meaning knuckles would've had an interesting role within the series too, it also would've been a different take on humans since they were part animal in design

I never knew it was going to be more than what came out of it and just the movie, but I've felt like it was. There's so much potenial for it, makes me wish that there was more to see. I really like the way Knuckles was in the OVA, that's a lot to think about. The way human people appeared in Sonic games over time is just confusing and kinda weird to me

@wackyworkbench At first with the games, there were just regular people and I mean Eggman/Robotnik is really mainly one of the only people? Remembering Maria and the others too. Then later I know in Unleashed that they made people look more cartoony and now people just don't really appear much at all, that there were presidents in places in Mobius, man I'm getting all caught up in this. Back to the OVA, with you thinking if the other islands were developed makes me think of the history of them and what the world was like before too. I think people with animal counterparts became a big thing in Japan? Forgot to say, kinda wish we saw more of the silly old owl guy if the series came to be

@radicalblur nekomimi/kemonomimi (animal ears) were a trend in 90s JP I noticed, but it also reminds me of archie sonic in a way how humans just naturally faded out as a species making robotnik and snivley the few humans alive, and in the OVA w/ the mountains seperating from the earth there definitely was casualties, maybe animal ppl and critters like sonic became the dominant species?

That's definitely interesting though, I know there's bird Sonic characters but we never saw more of owls until that movie?
