html tip: i used to style the shit out of video elements to make sure their size was consistent between the loaded and unloaded states. turns out if you simply set the first frame of the video (img resolution equal to video resolution) to be the poster of the video (e.g. ) you can now style videos basically only for the loaded state, especially if you keep the posters under 10-30 kb

ok so nice to know that neocities filters out html tags. fair enough. no html injection today. but anyway the example should have been: [video poster="/img.webp"][/video], just replace the square brackets with lt/gt signs

@alpx Thank you for your comment! I think there's definitely some truth to that, and it's very nicely put. However, I suppose that it depends on whether the ambiguity is inherent to what's being said, or whether it's borne from an unwillingness to commit to it. For me it's the latter, no doubt a byproduct of my inexperience with having a site like this. Luckily, practice makes perfect!

@literaturegirl I'm still discovering what's out there, so there's not much of a mark to miss. Though if I had to narrow it down, I'd say Gothic fiction is what speaks to me the most. In any case, feel free to recommend any books that you personally enjoyed, and I'll add them to my list!

For gothic fiction all I can personally recommend is Frankenstein and probably Wuthering Heights, which you have likely read already. If you're happy to be a little adventurous, I'd see if The Screwtape Letters by Lewis interests you at all.

I actually haven't read either of those yet, though I've definitely been meaning to. As for The Screwtape Letters, it's been on my radar for some time now, mainly because of you and Rainight, whose review of the book I really enjoyed. I also know that you really like C.S. Lewis, so I've been meaning to check out his work. Thank you for the recommendations!

Yes; Lewis is the reason I became a Christian, and he's from the same (very small) place as me. His writing is very dear to me. 'A Grief Observed' is his most profound work, I think, but it's very heavy reading. If you don't mind reading about the subject of grief, I would absolutely recommend it. It's also very short. I love his writing as I feel it's never unnecessarily dense but also never dumbed down.
