Just fixing an incomprehensible sentence in this review. Other than that, check out our favourite books for this year on our front page.

I adore The Moonstone. It was, quite likely, the only book that my father introduced me to (book recommendations were usually my mother's domain). It really captivated my imagination when I was a kid and I felt that excitement again when rereading as an adult. To me, it's the romance of Austen, the exotic mystery of Holmes and the sinister epistolary style of Dracula rolled into one. With good results!

It was a fun read. The solution and it’s method, which I kept out of my review, was bizarre, but I liked the way the book linked with England’s role as a colonial power. It’s fascinating to read as an early crime novel which does not wholly conform to later crime writing conventions.

Love Jules Verne. From the Earth to the Moon is amazing!

Except they only just take off at the end of that book. The sequel, All Around the Moon gets to the actual moon mission, but I'm yet to read that one.

True, you have to go to All Around the Moon for the next part. Haven't read that one yet, either.

A new blog post on our About/Blog page isn't just about a book. It's also about some beautiful birds which hang out in our garden!

ooooh, I wish we had King Parrots in San Diego. We do have a few flocks of little green parrots that are fun to watch, but nothing that colorful.
