For now I've made a server on Discord for the game, I'll get more on my website soon about it but I would like to start building a community for the game early, and of course I'll be posting about progress and small stuff about it and it is also a bit of a spot to hang out as well, and don't give Discord any money, but here it is: https://discord.gg/Hg6ssHWnWN

It's fine and I don't really use it except for messaging friends and a few communtiies, I just want to start off a small community for now and I would start a forum but I don't know if anyone would be interested in it

I'd like to give the fediverse [or mastodon] a try soon, and while you have given a bit of your experience to me before and I've seen that post about it from last year, I wonder how your experience has in terms of interactions and stuff since that post in more detail and some more things i should know about before i start

hm interactions... the fedi is a bit lacking with art, but people still very much engage with it (like, my most popular posts are my art). i'd say it's more personal posts about happenings and hobbies, though. people tend to reply more, i think. maybe not a lot more than bluesky, but still more

also: i've heard people say otherwise when mastodon was initially popular, but the server/instance you choose matters greatly. it determines the people you first see, the people that first see you, what the algorithm can recommend, and the moderators. i started off on wetdry.world, which i think was a pretty good starting point, and much of the people there also dabble with the indieweb

it's alright, I still wouldn't have my account as a place for my content primarily since I've got my homepage and I know i've made that massive rant about microblogging as art galleries but I do want to have more places for reach, I know about the merping.synth.download instance and maybe it might be a good starting point, but you can expand some more if you want and hopefully your headache is better

I have also been sitting down about bluesky and while I have moved off it given how i have seen it change, one of the main reasons why i kinda moved off it was that interaction part, although i dont know if ill return given my previous stuff but i might think about it some more anyways

Unfortunately, I realized I made a huge mistake with the lizard webring widget and used the wrong method to detect the parent iframe url which ended up throwing errors on websites other than my own, although the good news is that I fixed it a couple of hours ago today and now the widget should work 100% as intended after I checked the members

I don't know if I was missing something or I find it easier to build a following on this part of the web than I have on most social networks I've been on despite the latter having the audience that would be interested in my stuff the most (umm, critters y'know), perhaps with this place not only do people interact with each other more, but there's also more diversity in content too which also changed my mindset too

I think it's like a combination of the amount of people on here being so low, so you value the interactions on here a lot more, mixed with the fact that there are infinite ways to build a website vs the two pictures you can set on a standard social media profile. Also all the people on here have the patience to build a website at all, making interactions super-rewarding. It all works so damn good together

Oh yeah making a website takes time but in hindsight it's actually a good thing. I have also personally started growing a distain of discord servers including one of my friends (no offense, he's cool) but to me it feels like nobody really cares about you until a certain point in those places and I'm someone who gives up very easily when I keep failing with no progress, but here it's like we're all in this together

I think a part of the appeal is that the barrier to entry is pretty high (knowing html/css, designing a layout, etc.). It feels like everyone on here appreciates each other a lot more because of how much effort we're all putting into our creations. Anyone can post on IG or Twitter but it takes a lot to make a custom site.

Thanks for the follow! Checked out your site and WOW is it crazy cool. I love how your About page is literally just a desktop interface, and I was blown away with all the little "apps" and popup windows. The CD system on there is super cool too! I also really just like the Windows Vista-esque theme of your entire site in general! Brings me back to my old Acer laptop I had a while ago LOL. Awesome stuff!

Absolutely agreed on how bad it is when artists just store their primary entire gallery on a microblogging site that forces you to make an account half the time, mixed in with all their other personal posts and retweets and everything. I've had multiple different projects on those older sites beforehand in the past decade, and it would always end in burnout because the individual posts on there slowly dont matter. It

becomes a game of how-often-can-you-post to stay seen by others and not drown in the noise of everyone else doing the same thing. I get why it would be overwhelming for an artist to build their own gallery like a Neocities page, but they should definitely at least have an account elsewhere to browse the art like Newgrounds/Cara/others you mentioned. Also I still think RSS is too clunky but perhaps I've been spoiled

by how good the Neocities feed is. Ultimately I think the best solution for artists in the long term is new platforms like Neocities and Toyhouse and such, where they have to keep trying even if it seems like microblogging apps are the only apps to give a shit about. All microblogging apps are doomed to eventually become the shouting war other mainstream platforms are. YouTube is also slightly guilty of this

@tabf5 yeah I agree with you on toyhouse, newgrounds, etc being the best option since most artists don't have the skill of maintaining a website, although it's a great solution if you do which I have. And yeah i have to admit RSS is a little clunky, particularly with setting up but for me it's infinitely better than having to make many accounts just to stay in touch with the stuff I care about.

Either way, i think we can all agree that having to create accounts just to see information is terrible, and the problems with microblogging with you and I have faced very similar problems with you too on some microblogging sites as well, sure some are better than others, but none of them are really meant to be for art
