I think the only April fools jokes I'm really into anymore are the ones that are clearly jokes to begin with. like if it's a video the thumbnail makes it clear it's a joke, or it's something that actually exists like a playable game that's just kinda goofy. most other jokes like of the "fake product" variety just feel too mean

I remember BP Gas having ads in some bright cel shaded CGI style that stressed a boutique, modern experience, but also implied an environmentally friendly, globally conscious image. I often think about that in regards to things like Frutiger Aero, for all its qualities it came about much like the ingenuine grubhub ads and google vector illustrations of more moden days; it was advertising, a way to appeal to what the target audience was into.

if you've been here since before my big site overhaul in 2023 you may remember how each page had autoplay music in the background! i would like to apologize for it. it was a mistake

yeah, i love having music themed to areas of a site, but over the years my opinion on autoplay that is on by default has soured. methinks that sort of thing should be able to be opted into by the visitor, at least optional

my browser allows me to mute specific sites, but i dunno if every available browser can do that. probably not

i think it's nice to establish a theme or suggest a certain feeling to the viewer, if they don't want it tabs can be muted. i prefer to have autoplay on by default because i don't like the look of the player hanging around at the top of the page myself.
