PSA: don't host your images on discord, apparently they are going to change urls to prevent hotlinking, but even if that doesn't turn out to be true just host your images on site anyway. if you don't rely on image hosts you don't have to worry about all your image links breaking!

Aww, thank you! And if you're referring to the synesthesia page, it's nice to find someone else! I've only ever met one or two other folks sharing that synesthesia type, and I suspect it's because it's subtle enough that most folks don't realize it's not everyone's experience (particularly when spatial metaphors are often used for music).

I know this is not something people WANT to think about, but I'd highly recommend looking into other sites hosts for if/when neocities ever shuts down. neocities is far from your only option! there are many places you can host your site for FREE and still maintain a presence on neocities but not being dependent on it!

the plan has always been go to self-hosted once i find the resources to host a server 24/7 with consistent uptime. PHP seems "fun"

this is actually something i've been thinking about a lot recently. it would be nice to host my website + the git repo myself so i don't have to worry about hosts shutting down or corporations yanking them away once they stop being profitable. i would host a minecraft server also

I’ve heard Nearly Free Speech is also a good service. I’m happy on Neocities for now but it’s very important to not be married to your web host. And ALWAYS have a local backup of your site!!!

@whiona I host my own site on NFS- they've been fantastic, but you definitely need to be comfortable with SSH / remote file management, as there's not a graphical interface for site file management. It's very DIY and I like that about it, but it might pose a problem for others.

Your site's one of the few I don't usually use reader mode on, funny enough. It's not overly busy visually and the text width is good, so it's easy for me to follow. I only ever flip it on for you when dark mode really isn't working for me that day. (Incidentally, if you added a @media (prefers-color-scheme) light mode, I'd be thrilled).

Yeah I try to keep things simple and accessible. Implementing light/dark mode @media preferences was on my to-do list, so you can probably expect to see that pretty soon :-)

Hey there! wanted to say thank you for the reader mode article. Didn't know about it before and it makes reading stuff much easier for me (espacially on mobile). I did my best to enable it on most pages on my site (I'll probably go back to try wrangle the stray few that won't cooparate). So yeah- thanks! and you have a cool site!

so after reading over that article again it seems chrome's reader mode is beyond subpar on top of being hard to enable :^/ If you need to see reader mode either to actually use or just to test it out I'd recommend using Firefox, even just as a backup.

as things stand right now there won't be an accessnet discord server, I don't have the time or energy to moderate one and frankly I've seen one too many cool projects go downhill because of strife in discord communities. it's just not something I'm interested in ^^;
