Was going to order some paint from the catalogue company, but not when it's shades of grey (boring!) and £20 more than what I'd spend at a regular shop.... Nope, nope, nope! (Hate grey as a decorating colour. Don't see the appeal of it.) There is grey in the wallpaper, though, but we bought it years ago and I chose it because the other option had blue as the main background and there was a lot of blue and white -

pottery in my partner's parents' home which we both detested. I think if I'd known years later that I would dislike grey as a decorating colour, I would have gone with the blue. However, the room isn't all grey so it's not that bad.

Wanted the main part of it done, so I could move furniture back into it's original position but it won't be there because the job ain't done. So if there's any moaning tonight that we can't watch a dvd, it ain't /my/ fault!

If there is one thing that annoys me greatly is when I am trying to do something around the home, (which, by the way, would make it better for both of us), I get blanked and completely ignored. It's rude. It's ignorant. It's not the fact that I hurt myself today that is annoying me, but the complete disregard.

So, after having an arthritis flare up last week, I managed to get some decorating done today. Done most of the painting, though I'll probably need to do the wallpapering in a couple of stages.

Today I have been doing some artwork and testing some materials I got in a cheap art set last November. It's adequate, I would say, but they aren't perfect, and there are much better materials out there. Still, I find it useful to test different out different mediums to see if I like using them and how they can go together. As I mentioned yesterday, I hate this time of year, not because of the summer temperature -

Seems my partner wants to move. Thing is, I don't want to. I don't like the flat where we live, but flats with gardens are almost non-existent. I don't want to end up in a place where you don't have any outdoor space of your own, and you're likely to have junkies on every floor. He thinks we'll get a bungalow. We won't because there aren't that many of them for council tenants. We won't get a house because not enough

people to warrant it, so the only option is a flat /worse/ than the one we're in. Also don't want to move because it's close to fields and woods where I can take Max for walks and they are in walking distance. If we move, we'll most likely lose access to them. We don't have a car. Finally, it will most likely be me doing all the packing, unpacking, shifting furniture, putting it back together, decorating everything

because he'll find some excuse not to do it. We don't have money to pay someone else to do all that stuff (not that I'd want them to, because they'll probably do it in a way I don't like.) We don't have money to buy a bungalow and I'm not privately renting - even if we had the money to do the latter, you can't have the home the way you want it and landlords can be abusive and lazy... So... what option is there?

Another thing about private renting is that you can't stay if the landlord suddenly decides to kick you out for no good reason. The problem with council accommodation is that you don't really have a choice on what you can accept - you go where they tell you so if you're somewhere that has most of (if not all) of the things you're looking for in a home it doesn't make sense to move when you're likely to end up

Tomorrow (hopefully...) I shall be doing the long awaited decorating of the living room. I started it last year, but had to put it off for various reasons. Today, I have the paint I need to finish it. There is the wallpapering that needs doing, too, but the painting needs to be done first so the wallpaper isn't dripped on. The kitchen though will have to wait a tad longer, unfortunately.

I got most of it done last year, but we had a problem with a couple of radiators during the winter and they need to be fixed before I can finish it, which is annoying. Still, if all goes well with the rest of the living room, I hope to get some shelving units put up in a cupboard so I can store my books properly in there - there are some books in there at the moment, but they are hap-hazard due to lack of shelves.

Local council - supposed to cut the grass, but don't bother all summer. You get a 'gardener' to come in and do it, and they hack down everything, including flowers. This is why I want a shed and equipment to do it myself. I know what I want gone and what I don't, and what I plan on cutting back when the flowering and fruiting seasons are over... Poor bees have no nectar now.

The repeatable quest line that I like most at the moment has to be the Further Adventures of Bilbo Baggins. Wish they would do another quest line involving Bingo like that. The Bingo quest lines capture the spirit of the Hobbit in many ways.

The midsummer festival in lotro isn't my favourite one. For ages now, I have only been doing these festival events for figments of splendour (and to level my main character up when I need it to progress on to later levels) but the festival area is too big for my patience, takes ages traveling to places and you don't get a lot of figments for your troubles - much less than in other festivals. My favourite are the

The wedding event is nice, but it doesn't count towards your daily that you need to complete a number of times to get the figments, which negates the purpose of doing it, really.

Just read a tweet where someone said that they don't recall any character in sci-fi and fantasy wearing glasses for their eye sight apart from Harry Potter... Well... There's Daniel Jackson in Stargate, Viki Nelson in Blood Ties/The Blood Series (she's going blind due to a degenerative eye condition.) There's Geordi La Forge in Star Trek who is blind. If I recall correctly, both Giles and Wesley from Buffy/Angel

There was a time when you used to be able to get designs from different cultures (such as Ancient Egypt ones) and wildlife from other countries, for example, but I have noticed a recent tendency for everything to be heavily British (or in the case of US mags like Just Cross Stitch, heavily white American based.) That's fine in itself, but it's sad if other influences are lost.

Last year, many magazine publishers stopped producing some craft mag titles - among them were some cross stitch magazines. Though it was sad to see those titles go, it isn't entirely a bad thing - one of the mags that I have been getting on and off since 1995 (my mum started getting them that year) had been getting very boring and formulaic in the designs they published in their mag - there were a lot of boring -

modern designs that covered the same themes constantly and weren't appealing to stitch. Now, a year on, the mag has started to become more interesting again because there are less places for designers to submit their pieces and less pages to fill so better designs are published. It's kind of like TV when satellite and digital came about in the '90s. Channels became crap because lots of boring and mediocre programmes

were made to fill in the extra time that broadcasting companies suddenly had. Hopefully, cross stitch will be revived and designs I like will be easier to come across again.
