i don’t necessarily think my site is impossible to navigate as is or anything, but I’d def like to make a plaintext more “accessible” version of my site

Sorry i’m an artist at heart & when initially building my site went about it as if it was a collage canvas. I’m not skilled enough to do this yet but i’m sure a style switcher is the way

you can have a fun/pretty site and it still be accessible. it totally doesn't need to be completely plain. you just need to consider alt text on all of your images, make sure your text colour has high enough contrast against it's background, and that all your anchor elements have text in them (even if it's hidden)

Just use the library so much that it's worth having there to begin with! Svelte is there so you don't reinvent the wheel, so make it a supercar!

kallistero very true, but thats also ironically the issue. i just have a lot of code that i wrote lol. maybe im just overthinking tho, but also like 165kb transferred of html, css, and js...

That's smaller than a background image! If my page is being slow, it's because I let users just stuff one of my pages with lots of JavaScript effects. The devil's how much it takes to RUN the code as much as it's in how much it takes to load it. In F12, there's a "Memory" tab where you can see the JS heap size, and there's also a "Performance" tab where you can take a snapshot of where the page is putting resources.

Major changes under the hood by redoing my layout using flex and improved it a bit for desktop users. Wrote a weekly recap post: https://lostletters.neocities.org/2023/09/10/weekly-recap covering agency as a means of counteracting learned helplessness, CSS flex, and meeting up with a new friend.
