Has anyone else here actually read through S.686 - RESTRICT Act (aka "The TikTok Ban")? I've spent the last few hours going through this purposed legislation and it's BAD news. If any one has any additional information/takes on it please let me know, this looks like it could have some really negative implications for the US's digital liberties.

I'm not a legal expert so it's a little difficult making sense of this all, but from my understanding it gives the Secretary of Commerce the power to ban apps, websites, even online games. Media keeps only talking about TikTok but never the actual contents (or even name!) of this bill, it has uniparty/White House support too.

You mean to tell me they earmarked a bunch of things into a bill that has one good thing going for it? And that one good thing was used to get people in support of the bill while they didn't talk about any of the bill's other propositions? How evil!

im hoping its just a nothing burger. im gonna read through it and probably write something on my thoughts of it. if its got a bunch of other bad things mixed in a bill, it wouldn't surprise me but I am hoping not especially with it being a TikTok ban too.

If they can start banning apps, websites, online games, etc then this definitely isn't good. To think I might end up not being for a TikTok ban but because they're gonna gain a ton of power to ban other shit. If this is the case, this aint good
