so it turns out mullvad is a supporter of a swedish fascist group and now i have to scrub all references to it from my website.
where does that leave vpn service? i don't know of another wireguard compatible vpn and certainly nothing that doesn't keep extensive customer records.
i know windscribe has wireguard since i use them myself, and at least according to them they don’t keep records? i’m not good at finding details that might show otherwise. they are open source too iirc
I'd also have to recommend Windscribe. IVPN is another one I've heard good things about. Torguard and Astrill exist as well but I don't know much about them
idk, it is co-founder... like, do you think there really exist "ethical consumption under capitalism" tho? either accept it or dont look for unicorns - as name suggests, there is no such things...
to prevent getting bogged down by political theory, a member of mullvad's leadership behaved in a pro-fascist manner (viz. providing a large donation to a fascist political party), and the company responded by saying "well we don't necessarily agree with his behaviour, but we're not taking any further action". that's enough for me to pull my recommendation, and i have.
in case you WANT a political theory lesson: the entire fascist party platform is based on hatred and fuelled by populism. by presenting itself as a "people first, anti-corruption" platform, it aligns with both liberal and conservative ideals, making it easy to adopt either piecemeal or all at once. when established, it uses existing policy to make it impossible to remove, then begins its agenda.
mullvad has shown support for the fascist agenda by providing a handsome donation to the national fascist party, thereby allowing it to spread its influence.
mullvad's founder donated to a fascist party, making him a fascist. mullvad's staff did not push back against this, making them fascists. therefore, mullvad is fascist, furthermore i will not support them by subscribing to their service. it's actually easy to not support fascists.
I can second windscribe, as far as i can tell, they do not keep records, and can also use a hash file/number for logins instead of an email and password, and the prices seem alright (and also has port forwarding stuff, which can be good for certain people, like my friend Tore Rhent)
@oldkidz-newblockz bro "no ethical consumption under capitalism" is supposed to be a critique of capitalism mf, not an excuse to argue supporting an actual fascist is the same as supporting anyone else (because it obviously isn't the same)
