I have just reviewed Gravitar and Thrust, both of which use the same shield mechanic which I think is great. I had no idea that came from Asteroids Deluxe! Sadly neither game has female orgasming sound effects so do they even count as games?

This sounds well ahead of its time, lovely review thank you! Also, look at those lovely fonts. They don't make them like they used to.

Fun fact: The main font used in Realmz actually comes from an earlier 1989 Mac CRPG by the name of Theldrow. I know this because unlike the Pinball Dreams music, they actually got permission to use this font and credited the original creator ahaha

If the navbar looks broken in the Blood Shrine, that's because I had to update the css file for it and that takes time to refresh if the old css file is still in your cache.

Experimental index for all my reviews idea, it looks awful right now but i'm also tired and spacing out so i'll try and make it less terrible tomorrow fgjhhgkj

What a nice review, as always! I never understood the springboard mechanic either: I just hoped for the best and jumped LOL

Finally fantastic and thoughtful review! The instakill bits got to me a bit you are much more patient than me. It's SUCH a 90 sequel. (Also in no way is my site more professional than yours!)

Also would love to read what you think about the expansion one day, I have never played that.

Thank you I'm glad to have had an effect! There is a great and easy emulator called Arculator but yes, no subsitute for having a go on the old clunky hardware again.

I'm a little out of it tonight so apologies if the review needs some editing. Will give it another read over when I'm less tired ahaha. Small review of a small game to start out my return. Next review will be a big one I've been putting off far too long!

Great review, I have been on a weird-mouse-control-game bender recently so I looked up a video to see what you meant about the controls. Weird!

Also, you reminded me of shareware game Rats! in the 1990s which had an even more extreme female orgasm sound effect, which my parents were not amused by. What is it with these old devs?

@p7uen I've actually seen Rats! before myself, and yeah, the sound effect there REALLY goes overboard even compared to Crystal Quest and Apeiron. Something I've noticed when looking into classic Mac games is just how developers could get away with whatever they wanted in self-published shareware.

(addendum: I say it's "something I've noticed" as if I only found out recently, but in actuality I've known it for the past 23 years due to a time when I accidentally stumbled upon Barney Blaster as a kid and got horrified by the cute purple dinosaur being gorily torn to shreds on the title screen)

I'm thinking I might like to do some other pages along this line for non-game related aspects of retro Macs. E.g. maybe a page discussing the differences between all the different versions of Mac OS from System 1 to OS 9.2.2, or the different processors Apple has used in Macs over the year (Motorola, PowerPC, Intel, Apple Silicon)

Also, the link to play Thrust gives me a 403 forbidden error. Is this a region lock or IP issue? The entire BBC Micro site seems inaccessible to me, so I might just be unlucky.
Also was meaning to ask if you're familiar with Pixeljunk Shooter? I remember playing it back on PS3 and I recall it shared a lot of elements with the gravity shooter genre (physics, tractor beam, etc)
I have seen Pixeljunk Shooter but never played it, I had a PS3 but it was only used for wanting to play a game, updating the OS, updating the game, then realising I ran out of time to play and then doing it all again a few weeks later haha
There's another gravity game called Oids I've never heard of before that I fancy doing soon and there are some Mac versions. If you want to/are able to get hold of it we could do a dual-neocities-retro-review-collabaganza!
I really like this idea! There's a shareware version of Oids that's compatible with OS 9 that I can easily get my hands on. If there's specifics on how you'd want to collab feel free to email me (msxradpage@gmail.com), otherwise we can just both review it around the same time ahaha
