Your layout is really cute so far! I can't wait to see what you do. :)
Fixed some low-hanging fruit with the CSS, removed the underlines on the nav and footer links and changed the "here" from underscores that get read by a screenreader to be an underline style.

thank you!! i figured out how to change the colours and stuff, but I wanted to have a picture for the scrollbar thumb which just isn't available in firefox I fear. It works in chrome and safari though!

after searching for a long long while I finally found a manuscript that has descriptions of medicinal herbs that are easy to make a transcript of -- Lonitzer, Adam: Vollständiges Kräuterbuch -- only in old German but I think its possible to machine translate it mostly well. will figure out the formatting&design some other time

the hand holding a pink book in your inn is a border decoration in the Utrecht Pontifical - Master of Catherine of Cleves. Universiteitsbibliotheek Utrecht Ms400. If you go through a digital copy of the ' Pontificale ecclesiae beatae Mariae Trajectensis', it's on page 75!

I recently learnt of nystagmus when reading about Richard Osman. Thank you for pouring so much into this blog post. It has inspired me to think of ways to make the width of my website narrower so that it is easier to view.
There's a general guideline in graphic desing that optimum line length is around 50-75 characters long. That's a good general guideline to follow and just making sure the text reflows properly when resizing the screen is the most important thing. https://baymard.com/blog/line-length-readability That would help :)
I recently switched from '600px' to 70ch for my max reading-width utility class which theoretically should be 70 characters, but find it doesn't seem to work that way. It is more roughly 100 characters which is significantly wider. Perhaps rem would be more appropriate. But certainly reflowing is super important!
Thank you for this amazing post, and not just in a "today, I learned that this exists" way. It's incredibly thorough. And, like Frills, it motivates me to improve my website. I have mild convergence insufficiency, so I struggle with long lines/spacing too, but still ended up tailoring my site to exactly what *I* find usable. Even though I've had to write Stylish styles to make some other sites legible. Shame on me đ
