Still a WIP, but the page for my travel log is up! It feels pretty distinct from the majority of my site, but I wanted to do something different! ;u; Baby's First iFrame Experiment Too ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ

Gave my curio cabinet page a facelift! I felt like the old greeting card design of the last iteration didn't suit the theme, so here we are! I've decided to still maintain a "loves" page for my about section, but have it focus solely on my loved ones!

The containers on the preview look super whack ; __ ; they look fine on my test browsers, but let me know if there's any weirdness on your end!
omg you're so sweet! i love your site so much, it's like visiting a cozy cabin in the woods! <3

sorry i just read the Dear Evan Hansen blurb and I LOLed. I watched it a couple of years ago andim still baffled to this day why they allowed this film to be made
inkcaps
@sanguineroyal LOL NO don't apologize, I'm always down to dunk on Dear Evan Hansen, like it's utterly shocking that movie exists in its current state, like when you think about it and all the bizarreness comes spiraling back sdfsd

On the new book review - I'd heard a bit about this because it seems to be well known (or just well promoted?) in the self-help niche, it's sad to hear it ends up reading like almost every other self-help book for women. Genuinely can't stand the overall Tiktokification of books.
inkcaps
@sakana It's frustrating!! The title, blurb, and marketing of the book feels misleading. I went in with the expectation that this was going to be pop psych or science book, but it's a firmly self-help--ironic considering how multiple times in the text the authors touted that this isn't "basic self-help" too. And even then there are many better books in that genre imo!!

I muse about oversharing on the internet for a long time--maybe some of you can relate? :o
tehuan
yesss!! i can totally relate. i love that we're all sort of on this wavelength of thinking abt how we interact w the internet... i just made my own blog talking a lot abt it too! i absolutely agree though that people get Way too comfortable sharing a lot all the time.. it can just foster these really unhealthy relationships with people who might read, n it gets so murky...
sanguineroyal
I agree with you so much, the way that I've watched the internet evolve has been so surreal. As it stands, internet culture cultivates unhealthy boundaries online. The thing is, at least years ago, it was semi-anonymous with pseudonyms. The stuff I see people post on places like TikTok with their names attached scares me sometimes!
sneekrealm

boundaries a lifelong lesson fr... wanna ponder on this more too tho maybe just to myself >:-D have struggled w boundaries in other shit but have landed in a healthy enough intermediary state wrt being online...

sooo real what you said about oversharing being different from vulnerability + communication. i love a good boundary
inkcaps
@tehuan I saw that you wrote a post, I'm gonna check it out and comment on it ASAP! Ahhh that's so cool that we're in the place. The murkiness is a good way to describe it, it kinda reminds me of the controversy of "parasocial relationships" that has sprung up in the last few years!
inkcaps

@sanguineroyal Glad to hear we're on the same page!! Surreal is a good word to describe its evolution. Totally agree that some stuff that gets attached to identities is shocking. On my site I try to post that I would be comfortable with my IRLs seeing and knowing, you know??
inkcaps

@sneekrealm they really are tbh, and they change and fluctuate through your life too! I'm happy that you've a system of online boundaries you're happy with though!! ♡

@getcubed we LOVE a good boundary, they change lives!! I'm happy to hear this resonated with you too ; __ ; ♡♡

ah yes...i grew up on an internet that found boundaries offensive and suspicious, and it's still hard for me to keep in mind that we are not spectacles on a stage here to be evaluated or graded. it did a number on my developing brain and it only seems to be getting worse, now with real names attached. it's scary. good post!
inkcaps
@nenrikido thank you for reading, I'm happy that you liked and could relate!! It always blows my mind how your behavior is affected by what you're exposed to at vulnerable periods. If we were in environments where weak boundaries are modeled, where it's normal to reveal the most personal parts of yourself, then you might internalize and copy it!!

Ouch... I found this on the activity feed and I relate. Being online too young unfortunately let to oversharing too much as a teenager and its still online... It's always existed but it's gotten worse.
inkcaps
@hardmachine heyyy I'm so happy you found this, thank you for reading and checking this out!! Agreed that it's gotten worse. That's the scary thing though... like even if we delete things, there's the possibility of them still existing in some capacity @ __ @; knowing this really makes you conscious of what you wanna share!!

My very first travel log is up! If you check out, please tell me what you think! What you thought sounded interesting, what food looked good... I'd love to hear!! (°◡°♡) https://inkcaps.neocities.org/bedroom/travels/
ALSO, let me know if the Alpha PNG is too obtrusive while reading, I wasn't sure! (while I'm here, I'm learning in real time that you probably shouldn't open an image link in an iframe... will see if how to have it open in a new nab whoops)
Your log is looking great, I'm glad you had a great time in New York even though there were a few bumps at the start!! Those paintings in the MoMA looked gorgeous– particularly those panels of Monet's water lilies!
love love love your travel log !!
What a fabulous trip! I also LOVEDD the Brooklyn museum when I went. It's one of my most favorite memories. I feel you on how the age of some of those pieces are so staggering! This was immature but when no one was looking I took my chance to quickly and lightly touch a 5000 year old sarcophagus. It was beautifully overwhelming. I'd have loved to have seen that place setting exhibit! I'm glad you had a good trip :)
Oh wow! I've been before but never been to Moma - this makes me want to go back!
@kiley thank you!! I'm happy that everything smoothed out in the end too. The MoMA had so many treasures, but Monet's water lilies was a treat especially!! His sense of color is so amazing! ;o; ♡
@tabi THANK YOOUUUU that means a lot considering your recent diary entry was what kicked my butt in gear with making this!!
@cheytopia our decision to go to the Brooklyn Museum was spur of the moment but it was wonderful to explore!! Reading about your experiences at the museum made me smile too, and they're totally understandable--when you're face to face with an object as old as that it's like... really powerful! It puts your own life and lifespan into perspective tbh!!
@cheytopia The Dinner Party is a permanent display at the museum, so when you return someday, it's a must-see! You can spend a ton of time at that installation alone ♡♡
@percevalprintpress if you're back in NYC, then it's a must-see! The museum itself is an architectural feat and beautiful too!!
the dinner party sounds AMAZING, especially the part about it including “low” forms of art associated with femininity. indeed, fiber art pieces are just as worthy of being displayed in museums!! the craftsmanship and time it takes to create a piece of embroidery… there’s nothing “low” about that! all in all, it was lovely to read about your trip and I’m glad you got to spend time with your family ♥♥♥
looks like a packed 5 days! i can't believe i didn't know about the dinner party before! sounds so so cool
@marina 100% with you!! By The Dinner Party focusing on art forms historically dominated by women, it furthers the point it's trying to make to begin with! Really beautiful stuff--and thank you so much for reading, it makes me happy hearing you enjoyed it!! :D ♡♡
@tillie We really made the most of our time there, it was nice! And I HIGHLY recommend looking more into The Dinner Party, each place setting is incredibly detailed and full of thought, care, and symbolism. I didn't know about it either until learning about the museum, and it's for sure a new fave! ;o; ♡
