also the biblically accurate house gingerbread cookie was basically a house with all of the windows slapped onto it. staring into your soul... ... it also had pretty garlands on it

I've updated the page for advent25 with my entry for December 5, a new take on Krampus following the version I drew in 2024! I also updated the pages for 2024 and 2023 to my new standard for Advent pages, with the buttons displaying the Advent dates rather than the picture numbers!

How do people prefer button walls to other people's sites organised? A large lump, separated by category, or with individual descriptions? Thinking of redoing mine.

personally I think button walls should have any semblance of description, like either individual description or distinction by category at the very least. I think linking other sites is on the same level as adding a new page to your site, except with extra regards because it's another person's site that you think is special enough to have on your own site

that's a good point heart143, and is how I feel about it too. I write descriptions for mine because I want people to know why I added the site - but also I wondered if it takes away some of the spontaneity of clicking from a 'button wall' type of thing, since I noticed the latter is the most common version of it.

I feel like they have pros and cons. categories give more mystery, descriptions more clarity. maybe a toggleable description could be a good compromise?

Then theres me who doesn't even have a button wall, or links site... yet.. anyway. I plan on being on theme with my site, have narrotor talking about these distant lands, and write some descriptions based on what type of site, and have them categorized by what land they are on.. basically giving is worldbuilding lol

I like both, I prefer a large lump personally because I like the idea of pick a brick and see where it takes you. Admittedly I rarely read people's descriptions if they have added them

Maybe you could do a hover title that gives a short description? But still keeps the sort of 'random clicking fun' of a button wall. I'm thinking of doing mine like that, because I'm not sure if I even can categorize all the pages efficiently and I'm worried about it being more cluttered in the end..

Thank you!! Pixel adoptables have been a thing since way before neocities (I first saw them on the OG geocities in the 2000s). They're basically free to use pixel creatures people will put on their sites that other people are allowed to add to their own sites (usually on a dedicated adoptables page). They used to be mostly animals but it seems like people are branching out now to plants, drinks, anything!
