I remember both Mowgli and Ezhik v Tumane from my childhood. The beginning of Mowgli with the peacock walking around and that melody was always so magical and to this day I'm in love with Bagheera. The space travel animation is new to me but, weirdly, the space it depicts is not! There's something very nostalgic in a way that space was portrayed then, so full of hope.

Thank you for the follow & your awesome website. My boyfriend used to live in the Netherlands and he still raves about how nice cycling is there. Whereas if you cycle in London, you just get killed : (

I tried your falafel tip the other day. Hard to say how well it worked, some of the pattys fell apart in the pan, but I was using a different brand of falafel mix than usual with a recommended resting time of 120 min (???) and started frying after abt. 45, so who knows. Either way, the corn+falafel flavor combination works great and is not one i would have come up with, so thanks!

Omg : D Yeah, I can see how having more chunky stuff would make the mix harder to hold together. Unfortunately, I can't recall what mix I used initially. Anyway, glad it was edible :)

Are you planning to go on to the Odyssey? Talk about no peanut - all the famous bits are four lines long and the rest of it is about various people being rubbed with oil!

I always preferred the Odyssey, because I'm that kinda guy. Robert Fagles's translation is pretty good if you want a printed edition.

Fagles is my favourite translation too. He may not have been able to spice up the Odyssey enough for me but I thought his Iliad translation was fantastic.

That's the plan! Switched to audiobooks for evenings now that it's too light to project movies on the wall. Currently having an interval with a sci-fi set during the Trojan war (??) but I'm looking forward to people being rubbed with oil afterwards!

Re: your Buffy comment which came as a total shocker. I hated the later seasons! I thought the writing butchered the characters to bring in some drama, was especially cross about what they did to Willow. But there you go : )

Yes, there’s no accounting for taste. I’m one of those weirdos who believe the movie is sometimes better than the book, and that the sequel is sometimes better than the original. My family has disowned me and my dog looks ashamed when I try to play with her!

i am leaving the same words here too bc why not - i ended up on "Last Words" on your site a while ago and completely forgot to comment on it - i love the flow of it and how all the little details just slot into so much vivid domestic tragedy. these lines like "pulling your abstinence by the whiskers with my glass of scotch" go down so cleanly <3

Hi! :) And yeah, it's a weird and ridiculous film, but I feel that it never reaches a point where it's alienating or lessers the impact of the more emotional scenes. That's really why I love it: there's so much going on, it's all over the place tonally and pacing wise, but somehow, it works. Perfectly. it's monumental. It feels so full of life. idk

Oh I wasn't knocking the movie. Whatever its faults, I DID watch the whole thing in one sitting which I can say about no other movie of that length. It's fun and involving, and a true original. I've filed it under 'torture porn' but I'm a bit of a gentle flower that way.

I have just finished the Bomb story and I really enjoyed it. My favourite bits were: 1) descriptions of the pre-Unification museums which made me think of Pamuk's Musem of Innocence in Istanbul; 2) "Telling, sometimes, is to watch someone, and to not pretend you weren’t looking when they notice."

Re internet memory #2: interesting that you mention creating lots of accounts. The author of the article you linked to mentions not bothering to feed her Neopets as a kid since they couldn't die. Maybe I'm the sensitive kid here. I could never! The Pound was a constant heartache for me, just its bare existence :)

The pound was so sad!! Sounds contradictory but I didn't care that much for the pet aspect of the game... I liked to explore, play games and attempt to make lots of neopoints. However, I HATED seeing the sad/sick pictures so I kept my current pets fed/healthy, but out of sight, out of mind I guess lol
